... Those of you that have the ZVG MultiVectors. How did you wire the controls?

IE, not what hardware, but which connection to which button?

It's not set up, but here's my intended layout based on the IPAC-2 defaults, Mame defaults, and the Space Duel control panel:

IPAC-2; Kbd; Space Duel
COIN 1; 5; Left Coin
COIN 2; 6; Right Coin
START 1; 1; start
START 2; 2; select
1 RIGHT; R arrow; P1 Right
1 LEFT; L arrow; P1 Left
1 SW 1; L-ctrl; P1 Fire
1 SW 2; L-alt; P1 Thrust
1 SW 3; space; P1 Shield
2 RIGHT; G; P2 Right
2 LEFT; D; P2 Left
2 SW 1; A; P2 Fire
2 SW 2; S; P2 Thrust
2 SW 3; Q; P2 Shield

Sorry about the formatting :-(

Thank you, just what I needed...

Got the sound hooked up in the Space Duel cab yesterday... :)

Congrats on the sound (especially the PC end of it :), did you use a PC speaker amp? How did you end up wiring it?

Thanks.

I simply took a PC Speaker setup, cut off the speakers, attached quick connects to the end (with the ground wire spliced into 2 quick connects) and then attached them to the speakers.

I originally build a little adapter to connect into the harness but that did not work as I expected. I am assuming that they wires from the harness are not direct connect to the speakers.

I am thinking of wiring up an adapter to the wiring harness for the controls. that way, I can use the existing harness and then just add the extra wires to the ipac

Thanks!

Thanks.

That's what I had in mind as well. I think this is the correct connector (both sides with pins) from Bob Roberts:

Go here: http://www.therealbobroberts.net/conectas.html

and look for "Amp 24 Pos Plug/Cap & Pins/Socs"

One other question.

I am thinking of wiring up another button for "ESC" or Menu. has anyone done this?

My concern is that if someone pushed the ESC key during a game, it will go to the menu, but in the menu it will exit out of the emulator.

Is there any way to have a "menu" key?

I chose to just use the existing wiring harness and built a loom to plug into that (for both controls and sound) from the ipac and PC speaker out. I've kept everything stock, that way I can switch it back to a real Space Duel in a few seconds. I used the AR2 to amplify the PC audio, and it works really well. I've uploaded a few pictures here;

P.S for the ESC key the ipac implements one by default. If you press P1 and P2 start at the same time it will send an ESC to the PC. For Space Duel I wired P1 and P2 start to the Start and Select buttons.

Nice setup Dan

Thanks for the great pics, gives me a few ideas :)

(Do you mind if I use the pics in my Amplifone site below? :D)

Thanks Dan.

Similar to what I was thinking of doing.

Do you have an ESC key mapped? how do you return to the menu?

Hi, I think you missed my PS on the last post. Using an Ipac by default pressing whatever you've mapped for P1 Start and P2 Start together will send an ESC key signal to the OS which will exit you back to the menu when in a game. You don't need to map a specific button to do it :)

Not sure if this is answering your question, but it sounds like you don't want to use the ESC key to exit the emulator and the ESC key to exit the menu. If that is true, you can remap the keys in MAME so that a different key exits the emulator.

Got it...

THe thing I worry about is that if someone hits "esc" twice, it will exit to dos.

Any way around that?

That's what I am looking to do.

Say "esc" to exit emulator, 'x' to exit to menu.

I looked in the config files for mame, but did not find where to change this...

The menu looks to be hardcoded so we can't change that key unless we whip out the hex editor. In MAME it is easy once I remember the old format. Let me put my wayback cap on and think about it for a minute. Which version of VectorMAME are you using?
Is it this one, VectorMAME

Yup. that's the one I am using...

Actually, I think its in the default.cfg file

There are a couple ways to do it. Edit the default.cfg file that is in the cfg directory. Make a specific ctrlr file in the ctlrlr directory. You may be able to hit tab in mame and remap it as well.

Sounds like you may have it under control so let us know if you are having trouble with it. Also, remember in the mapping you can have something happen, like exiting, with multiple keypresses, instead of a single key if you wanted. Just don't map it like the IPAC is setup with P1 and P2 start.
