Well my ZooKeeper is now playable (thanks Robotron911!) with a wg7601 monitor in there :D. There is definately a problem with the sprites though..

The game is playable and everything seems to work but the text in the game is unreadable.

That looks like some kind of video RAM problem.

Get yourself a pdf manual and get the game into test mode. I think there's something that checks the RAM and will isolate your issue.

Hey Kerry thanks for the response, I still dont 100% understand the test mode on this machine. It seems like when I put it in test mode it goes through all the led codes without stopping. The game blinks out random codes while its playing also, ill have to read if thats normal.

Since the game seems to pass the self test mode should I replace the video ram chips to shot gun this?

Looking good so far... the few times I've had graphic glitches like that it's been a video RAM or a poor ribbon cable connection. And actually now that I think about it, I had a cold solder joint on my DK board.

Wish I knew more about Taito troubleshooting but I don't. Good luck and even like that I'll bet Zookeeper is a blast. :)

Ive discovered the Taito diagnostic color bar screen. This means something about bit 3 stuck low. What is a bit? how do I check or fix color ram bits? I can swap out chips and thats about it :(

You have a video RAM problem. If you do not have any 4116 RAM handy, take the first 4116 RAM (mark it) and start shifting it through the other 4116 RAM positions. When the problem on screen changes, you have found the defective 4116 RAM.
