Zookeeper painted black and beat to heck.

So I got this arkanoid 2, which happens to live in a zookeeper! I thought it was qix or something from the photos. So this raises the question: how deep down the rabbit hole do I want to go?

This thing is beat. I think even if I get the black paint off the original artwork is most likely at best scratched to hell.

I think a 100% restore is out of the question. I think I will hit a grand in parts with little to no effort. And to do it right I would to hunt original non repro parts. As it is I have to hunt for the coin door.

Do I go crazy and strip and repair? Stencil? Do I get the taito multi kit on eBay? I swear I almost wish this was just an old alpine ski or jungle hunt.

And if I go multi taito which one? The eBay kit solves a lot of problems for me. Did I mention I'm missing the control panel?

I heard the way to go for Zoo Keeper nowadays is just to multi-Taito. I'm sure the rest of the art can be found for sale as reproductions/stencils too. You can pretty much theme it after whatever Taito game you want.

Almost everything to make a ZK is available including repro CPs.

CP - joseph77 http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=344903&highlight=taito+panel
PCB - Jrok ZooQ from Jrok or Arcadeshop
Harness - Jamma (or adapter to original harness); make your own CP harness
Marquee - ThisOldGame
Bezel (glass art and instruction panel) - ThisOldGame
CPO - QuarterArcade
Side/Kickplate Art - Phoenix Arcade
Buttons - common

Not so easy to find ->
Joystick - humm, that's the difficult to find part or maybe substitute?
Monitor bezel (plastic) - also difficult too find

Great post vector. (Certain games should have their own subforims with saved instructions! Quick follow up question: was the zookeeper joystick unique or was it the same as other taito like qix or jungle hunt?

Same as those. Small Wico. Also Elevator Action. A ton of Taito games got converted, so there are a lot of hacked panels with that stick still there.

Methinks it might be easier (cheaper)to find one of those to substitute in.

I know all of this stuff is relative to market and location but around Pittsburgh the taito games (both originals and conversions) have seemingly evaporated. Even odder I used to see jungle hunts and qix's in the wild bitd everywhere. It's like someone ate them all or hoarded them. I want an original qix as well. I've literally not seen even a broken one come up for sale in my market for years.
