I have a dedicated Zombie Raid with (I think) original monitor. When I got it was told the monitor quit working. When plugged in I can hear a sort of ticking noise coming from the general area of the flyback.

So I'm guessing the flyback is bad, but what makes it do that? (the ticking noise) And where can I get a replacement? I don't know the chassis, couldn't find the brand or make on the monitor...but heres some pics from another klover's post (from what I've seen on the forums the monitors go bad, but no info on fixing):

Any help as always is appreciated.

Well, that chassis pic in that thread isn't very helpful, as the K7400/K7500/U2000/U5000 chassis looks very similar from that distance. Check the back left corner for a label that has a WGMxxyy number:

xx=monitor size
yy=chassis model

74 = K7400
75 = K7500
20 = U2000
50 = U5000

Your "ticking" is caused by the SMPS (Switched Mode Power Supply) on the monitor chassis. It is trying to power up the monitor, but is failing to do so due to the HV Shutdown circuit kicking in due to a problem on your chassis (short, open, bad cap, bad transistor, etc). The SMPS continues to try to start the monitor over and over, and that causes the ticking you hear. You most likely don't have a bad flyback unless you can see a crack in it.

You can start by inspecting the chassis for any burnt or damaged parts. Then check the HOT (Horizontal Output Transistor) to see if it is bad. Look for any caps with bulging tops. Check the voltage regulator and surrounding diodes for bad parts. Etc....

Not to get off subject, but thanks to you modessit...every time I see Steve Martin's face now it gives me a sigh of relief. I think to myself "I knew you'd show up to save me Steve Martin!!" lol

So what/where is the voltage regulator? Stupid i know, and I probably already know what it is...just a dumb moment.

Well, you should first verify which model you have. Then you should go here and check the Troubleshooting and Repair Guide for that model:

If you can't determine what model you have, get some good pics of it for us...

Is that link the same cabinet as yours, or just a reference? If that's not the same cab/monitor, that doesn't really help. My Zombie Raid that I had a while ago had a Hantarex Polo in it. You can compare yours to pics from: http://www.therealbobroberts.net/monitor.html .

Thats what it has on the chassis...sorry just got the computer hooked back up, officially moved into the new house. :)

Checked Wells Gardners site for the U2000 25" and found the following:
Symptom Cause Comment
NO PICTURE/VIDEO IC U500, Q501, C116, IC U101, CRT TICKING SOUND
SHUT DOWN C713, C730, Z701, IC U701, TICKING SOUND

Causes are listed from most common to least common components. Will be checking these out tomorrow.
