Awhile back I sold my pretty nice Zaxxon to a local fellow collector that really wanted it. Big mistake that was, or was it ? I got a tip from a friend that a guy had a Asteroids and Zaxxon he wanted to get rid of ( after his daughter unsuccessfully tried to sell them on CL for way too much ) so i called the guy up. What he really wanted was his Asteroids fixed and said if I could fix his Asteroids I could have his Zaxxon.

I went out to his house and checked out the games. I told him that I would do better than just fix his Asteroids, I would give it an overhaul. So I took all the components out of his Asteroids and took them home. I installed a cap kit on the monitor , new big blue in the transformer , rebuilt his AR board, put in a new power cord and hooked him up with a HS kit for the motherboard plus did my little +5 mod .

So for about $100 in parts and a little time I got a pretty nice Zaxxon, probably one of the nicer ones I have seen. All I did so far was wipe it down and put a free play kit in. A little paint on the handle and touch up on those little scratches here and there and this one will be ready for the game room. I don't even think I will replace the t-molding.

Zaxxon is one of the most under rated games imho. Welcome back !

nice score, dave. that is a zaxxon i would definitely own. we have a lot of them that pop up in the denver area for some reason. one of the more popular games on craigslist.

Nice story. You did the fellow a favor and saved two games in the process. I'm sure his Asteroids will run for many years to come!

For sure. I did about as much as you could do to that Asteroids to make it reliable. I think he said it had been sitting for a few years. He was pretty happy to see it work again. About as happy as I was to get another Zaxxon :)

How friggin awesome! That's a sweet looking Zaxxon, and you side stepped the wood grain experience!

Very cool that you saved that Asteroids too.

Now tell me, is that t-molding smooth or textured? =)

The last Zaxxon I had was woodgrain and I am still not sure what style I like better. The t-molding is textured.

Congrats on the game! Zaxxon sadly was one I really disliked as a kid, the pseudo 3d really just got on my nerves playing it! I could never quite be on the right plane to make the shots and get through gates etc :(

Wow thats in great condition. They are heavy as hell for some reason. Yeah I'm sorry I sold my Zaxxon because it was a Super Zaxxon with the red joystick which I have yet to see in the last three years.....big mistake. Oh well...
