I accidentally posted this in the restoration area (in my panic)...

I fixed my Zaxxon sound issue and now the monitor/image went crazy.

I should leave well enough alone. You'd think I'd have learned that by now. I'm 7 days away from my arcade party and I decide to do a little work on my Zaxxon's sound issues.

The game plays great, screen looks sharp, etc. The only issue, as I learned were common with Zaxxons, is that some of the sound effects were missing or would fade over time.

Using the handy instructions on its listing here, I was able to embark on my first soldering project. I replaced the caps in need on the sound portion of the pcbs... everything went smoothly & my soldering looks pretty smooth. I put the boards back in my machine...

...and now, for some reason, the screen is just flipping out, like it's not able to sync or something (but it doesn't "sound" like it's out of sync...that high pitched tone, etc)...

I tried making adjustments on the monitor pots, but nothing... it just kept flipping diagonally.

So, with 7 days to go...

Is this a monitor issue? Did I somehow do something to the PCB? (doubtful, imo)

Does this get the standard "Do a cap kit." reply?

And I believe this is a G07...

Why the hell can't I just leave crap alone and not get myself into these situations? (Don't answer that, I'm just venting.)

Help!

Make sure the connectors are on the right pins.
You can also look under the monitor board and look for little circular cracks around the header pins.

Can you elaborate? Do you mean the edge connection.... Because that's the only thing I touched, as far as inside the game. I was nowhere near the monitor...all I did was take out the pcbs & replace 13 caps on the audio portion (which indeed fixed the missing sounds), and put the pcb back in...

My Zaxxon did that one time, looked just like that. I was lucky and it turned out to be SW4 had gotten bumped, changed it back and all was good. It's the small dipswitch on the right side of the top PCB(with edge connector facing you). I would try switching it to see if that might be your problem.

That rules out the cable installed on the wrong pins, but it doesn't rule out the header pins on the monitor from being loose.

Here is a site that talk about rebuild a g07

The picture below is the the sync pin header
They might have come loose. If the did your game will have trouble syncing

Sw4... I'm seeing SW 1, 2, & 3... But no 4.

Its on the top PCB right side edge not quite 1/2 way up and about 1 inch from the side of the PCb. There will be some writing in white close to it that says "color conv.". The dipswitch is small and blue with a 1 and 0 on it. It's only a 1 position dipswitch. Also it's to the right and up from Rom15. Hope this helps, Dennis
