I'm in the process of making my Zaxxon look presentable.

I have access to a powder coater through work and I thought, "I'm sick and tired of painting my control panels with a can" Figured I'd treat myself.

So, got the control panel back today, looked great. Nice satin black. I got the Zaxxon CPO off eBay, although it looks like the same one everyone else has. Die-cut, silkscreened, 3m adhesive.

Went and ahead and tried installing it and the thing just would not adhere that well at all. As soon as I hit the tricky bend under the start buttons, it was obvious there wasn't enough adhesion. Just wasn't enough to overcome the tendency for the overlay to pop out of the bends. I took the whole thing off and it came off really easy. It's like it's not able to get a good grip on the powder.

Anybody else out there have issues? I never had any problems with my rattle can sprayed CPs. Other than it being powder coated, not sure what else it could be. I'm going to strip and repaint with some Krylon. Not real happy about that.

Plus, I had to pick up another overlay from thisoldgame.

Thanks.

I always spray the panel with 3m adhesive then apply the CPO. Powder coating should not matter at all......

I have to look. Its the maroon can...if the wrong stuff is used, it will eat the CPO

did you wipe the panel down first?
naptha, alchol, etc.??
if the metal was too cold this would be another contributing factor

and your order has allready shipped :D

You know I didn't. I did try some denatured alcohol afterward, although didn't seem to help much.

I'll try some naptha and make sure I'm up to room temp.

I sent a pm on the space paranoids poster if they were still available.

That's some speedy shipping. :)

I don't think naphtha is the best choice. Alcohol would be much better. Also, you can use a heat gun or hair dryer to warm up the panel. That's what I do.
