I have a brown zaxxon and have seen others that are wood grain. I assume both are correct factory colors, but why and when did the change over occur?

My PCB has a date of May 82 and the burn in tag is dated 6-1-82 so was brown the first color?

Every Zaxxon I've ever seen was wood-grain.

Now - Congo Bongo was the same cab and was brown laminate. Either you have a Congo Bongo someone made into a Zaxxon, or it was done at the factory with a leftover Congo Bongo cabinet....

I don't think it was a leftover congo bongo due to the burn in tag that's in the machine. The PCB has a date sticker of May 27 1982 and the burn in tag is 6-1-82. 5 days from completed board to completed cabinet seems like a decent time frame for a build. The tags are either glued or stapled in and they don't look like they have ever been moved. No rips or extra staple holes on any of them.

The inside of the cab is also painted brown and the Sega/Gremlin sticker is inside and it says "Game Zaxxon UPR".

There are also a few brown zaxxon on ebay right now.

I've never seen a brown one, but yours sounds original. If you can post pics I would like to see it.

The other half has the camera and camcorder right now. When she gets home I'll get some pictures and post them. I'll try and snap a few with my cell, but can't say how good they'll look.

Cell phone = garbage. you can't tell if it's a tag or a blurry picture of bigfoot.

Well it seems like a few people have brown ones. Now which came first the brown or the wood grain?

I've seen them both, there both from the factory and I believe the brown ones are the earlier product?

Here is one I just sold.
Had the Factory serial plate.
