ZAPCON - Phoenix AZ Classic Arcade Convention is a go!

After long, grueling search for an appropriate venue that was both available when we needed and not super expensive, we have succeeded! Sorry it took so long, but it wasn't for lack of effort.

ZAPCON will take place April 6-7 at the Renaissance Phoenix Downtown Hotel.

So now it's time to put your money where your mouth is… I'll be hitting up everyone who previously gave an "unofficial" pledge to bring down games for an "official" pledge.

For those not in the loop, we need games to make the event successful. If you bring games you get in for free, and we promise to take good care of your property.

Our website, zapcon.com, should be up in the next couple weeks. We'll have more information there.

Wes

oh yeah...

If you want to participate by bringing down some (fully functional) games for the event, PM me with your name, phone number, email, and what arcade and/or pinball games you would like to bring.

zapcon.com is live!

The website is now up! check it out: ZAPCON.COM

Well, the website must be working because we've had customers ask if we plan to be there... and we do!

I am ***SO*** there!!!

Wes, sending you an important text about it...

I might (non-commitably) be up for more than 3 games... You need to swing by my house and see what I have / might fir your guys' bill. I have some very large games I don't feel super comfortable moving / squeezing through my front floor, like my 3 San Francisco Rush the Rock: Alcatrazes, and my oldest game, the doublewide and doubleheavy Space Wars... :001_sconfused:

I can probably add a Tempest to my list. Rachel asked me about it at ArtCade, and I should probably bring it, too.

PM incoming.

And bump. Because this thing needs to happen in a big way.

BTW - How is this going to be advertised? New Times, AZ Repub, can you get a news channel or 5 to run a snippet? They LOVE this kinda shit. People need to know!!!

My plan at this point is to bring TRON and SF2 Turbo, but I'm seeing what else I might be able to manage. Our Star Wars vector has been behaving strangely intermittently so it ain't moving.

Good luck with the show bump for ya. There used to be a couple of shows like this in the Philly area, but they're both gone now. I'd love to see one come back!

Actually Too Many Games does a great job in the Philly area, but it is definitely oriented more towards consoles: http://toomanygames.com/

I know they would love to have more coin op (we usually bring some videos out), but I think the struggle finding people to bring games out.

Anthony

I remember you from there, Anthony, I actually came up and said Hi! You are correct, between you and the guy in the corner selling the 60-in-1 cabs, there were way more arcade games at TooManyGames than there have ever been.

I just got back into arcade games in time for the last Philly Classic. That and VGXPO were great shows with pretty large arcades. Chances are you were there. I'd love another show like that! The core of gamers seems to be here to support it... We have two of the best pin shows in the country between Allentown and York.

As far as advertising goes, we're going to flyer the hell out of town, and put up posters wherever they'll let us. My friend Amy is experienced in the realm of media and is handling our press releases. We've already had a mention in the new times blog and channel 12 expressed an interest in having us on a little closer to the event.

You should try to arrange a crew from So Cal to bring a bunch of games. Plenty of collectors with big collections out here that might be willing to share. I'm not one of them :) (only two working games right now)

I'm having enough trouble getting people from Tucson, much less SoCal. :p

Well, you're at least driving out here to check it out, riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight?

Sponsors!

Big thanks to Firebird Pinball and Zia Records for supporting ZapCon!

Desert Sky Games is in and so far plans to bring SF2 Turbo, TRON, Puzzle Fighter, Xybots, and a fifth title TBA (depends on what we have that I feel comfortable having someone transport... our Star Wars is OOC for the moment.)
