I know that the Midway version of Space Zap is kind of common... but I have a shot at the original "Zap" by Game-A-Tron. Shows up as none owned on the KLOV page... is it actually rare? Worth going for? I can swing it fairly cheap I believe, but I'd rather go for something well known if it's not really rare.

space zap is a lot if fun .
If Zap is the same or similar, get it. The fact that it's not as common makes it that much cooler.

Pretty sure Zap is just Space Zap minus the color overlay. Thanks for the input, it's quite tempting... anyone seen one before? know if it really is rare?

Game A Tron space ZAP

ZAP is the original game from Game A Tron. Space Zap came later after some negotiations between the two companies. Zap has similar game play but is a totally different game and ROM data, PCB, etc. While the front bezel does say "space ZAP" I believe the in game texts only refers to the game as "ZAP". A few members here have Game A Tron Space Zap or Zap machines. They made 2 versions of the cabinet. One which is a straight on view of the monitor and another that is reflected with a mirror like Space Invaders and used a color overlay. Both versions use a b/w monitor.

Yes but you don't want to play it without the original CP. The buttons are what makes the game fun - like a frantic game of Simon.

If you decide to not get it, and are willing to share, I would be interested to pick up that version for myself.

Emailed you the info. It had the wrong location originally, it's actually about 6 hours away from me, and it was never a grail of mine... so yeah, go for it. :)

I just sold a project Game-A-Tron Zap to someone in Central Florida recently so there are a few out there. Unfortunately my friend's garage where it was stored flooded a few months ago so the bottom inch or two of the cabinet will need to be recreated. Hopefully the buyer has the time and energy to make it right or passes it on to someone who will, but it will certainly be a labor of love. The bezel on the Game-A-Tron version is gorgeous and one of my favorite bezels. Shame on me for buying one and then doing nothing with it :p
