Hey everyone

Been along time since i worked on any pinball machine but recently scored myself a Zaccaria Time Machine pinball in pretty good nick. Saved this from going to dump as the owner didn't want it anymore nor wanted it to be repaired. Originally the machine did work but now just the lights turn on but nothing else happens. Personally never tried this machine out to see what it does but i thought would be best checking each pcb first

Anyway long story short been doing some searching seems there is a alot of info plus test rom made by Leon? tried to get into his site but can't seem to find anywhere to download this or any other info

All ive done so far is taken out the MPU removed the battery as it was had it seems PCB didnt suffer any acid damage, metered a few dark looking tracks all checked out and fired it up on the bench using just +5 volts

All the test points listed here http://www.zaccaria-pinball.com/gen2/cpu.html match what i got so i take it the MPU maybe ok

So next ill check out the power transformer and power supply PCB

Any info or help and what to look for would be great

Nice pickup on getting the Time Machine.

Does the self test LED light on MPU board? If it does, there's are good chance the MPU is at least running. If the voltages are out of range or missing on the PSU, the PSU will toggle the power failure line to prevent to MPU from booting. The bridges fail on the power supply, the large connector in the bottom right of the PSU burns and also the components in the power failure section of the power supply can get damaged.

Hope this helps.

Hey

Thanks for the reply

Basicly all i have tested out of machine so far is the MPU which well all i can see fainty is the LED on and stays on other then that i haven't checked out the rest of it but when i get to it ill post up a reply

Thanks for info as that will help me hopefully get it running to a point now :)

Only thing is i need to find a rubber kit and also maybe a coil or 2 seeing your from Aus is there any one that stocks these or parts for these machines. i can't seem to find anyone that does

led should blink. Zac is very similar to bally pinball boards. if the led is staying on you might have a reset section problem.

Leon's info (and his test ROM) has been mirrored on pinwiki - see here.

bit of a update i checked out the promgram roms and seems 2 and 3 have lost its code i would say its maybe from age hmmm anyway being 2532 i restrapped to pcb to take 2764 used leons test rom all passed no problems reburnt the program roms to 2764 and hopefully should run tomorrow

can anyone explain how the test menu works kind of lost here do you flick dipswitch 4 on then use button inside cabinet to change what test you want?

what should happen if i just power it up without battery fitted?? i take it should just start running or does it need setting up first?

sorry for all the noob questions but i rarely work on pinballs only video arcades and pcbs

Alittle update i got the MPU booting and machine seems to be some what working, I got sound demo lights ect so happy about that

Only problem is it can't make up its mind if its in the future or past the middle playfield sometimes stays down on start up then after losing a ball goes up. Sometimes it will act as normal on start up but 9 out of 10 it just stays down so not sure what the issue is there. It does understand what mode it is as the sound pcb says when up in the future or down when in the past.

The other thing i can't work out is it ever gets to game over just keep playing for ever i guess that maybe a setting or 2? and also i can only get 1 player to work i thought this machine was a 4 player?

Next ill be working on getting the displays to display correctly as player 1 and credit/ball meter is all messed up. Player 1 doesn't count the score correctly just says on 0000 or sometimes changes to 8 then back to 0 again

Sounds like you need to clear the ram and see what it does after that. Did you install a remote battery pack?

At the moment its running no battery just to get it working once i get the displays working correctly i will be able to get set the machine up fully. ATM the ball/credit display is all messed up so going to swap it with player 3/4 for now as they seems to be fully working then either try repair/replace the faulty display

Yeah you need a battery and have to clear the ram or you will get all kinds of funky things going on as the ram gets corrupted with no battery
