I have a bunch of the z80 HSS kits parts left (Moon Patrol, Lady Bug, Galaxian, Scramble) and want to sell them off so I can work on version 2.0 and possibly some other projets. I thought since there are tons of people out there with ideas about games they want a HSS kit for and a desire to learn how these are done I should offer these as a develoment kit.

The kit includes:
1. Build it yourself z80 hss pcb, sockets, header pins, NVram,16v8 GAL, Eprom and a capacitor (GALS and Eproms may be refurbs)
2. A pdf describing how to build a z80 hss kit

I don't have a lot of time these days so I can't walk a lot of people through the process but will take suggestions on updates to the instructions on things that may not be 100% clear.

I know this is a niche market, but thought it might be worth doing.

Now that I think of it I can add a socket with the kit for the GAL... that way you can keep re-programming it. You would need an additional 28 pin socket so the eprom can go over it but I don't have a lot of those so it will not be included.

I got some questions about this so I just wanted to be 100% clear. This is a DEV kit. If you build it and plug it in, nothing will happen. The document provided with the kit will walk you through how to figure out memory maps and program the GAL and some best practices for working with program code. But it is a DEV kit, it is not plug and play. Feel free to PM me if there are question.

Good luck Jason. I think this is great.

Would be great-er if he'd used the layout I posted many threads ago that didn't have the PAL under another chip, so it could be socketed -- wouldn't have made the PCB any bigger either :)

I use CPLDs on all my kits now so I can ISP over JTAG instead of dealing with PALs
 
I agree, it is not ideal for working on a project (not too bad once the project is done because you don't need to remove it). It is still workable though. I socket the pal and just double up on the eprom socket. it's annoying to remove an eprom that is in a socket that is in another socket.

I have one of the dev kits pre-built if anyone is interested. Same price but no need to do the soldering.
