If you could only have 10 games from generation NES to just before PSX what would your games be???

This includes all consoles from 1985 to 1994. Check the Wiki link if you don't know what those consoles are...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Timeline_of_video_game_console_releases_in_North_America

This is about taking the minimalist approach. The most bang for your buck. Games that would keep you content forever if they were your only options in gaming life. List the games you would own as well as the console the game in on (there are different versions often times with sports titles...i.e. Madden is on a lot of consoles).

I will start things off with this list.

I have no console or games 1985 to 1994 so my list is empty for now...

I think you got your opening sentence wrong :)

These should be interesting threads. Though when does the timeline end? IS it just with the console release date? Because there were many SNES games released after 1994, for example. Also, do add systems like the Sega CD and 32X count? And the title says "up to '94" - is it really "through" '94?. I NEED CLARIFICATION HERE :D

Here's what I can think of right off the top of my head, though I reserve the right to revise this later :p

1. Tetris (NES)
2. Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)
3. Super Mario World (SNES)
4. Metal Slug (Neo Geo AES)
5. Mega Man 2 (NES)
6. Mega Man X (SNES)
7. Secret of Mana (SNES)
8. T-Mek (32X)
9. Lunar (Sega CD)
10. Motocross Maniacs (Game Boy)

I could probably revise this further...for example, I could probably combine 2 and 3 by choosing the alternate Mario All-Stars cart or something. Also, on one of the other lists I could alternatively choose the Mega Man Collection for PS2, which could free up two slots here, depending on how anal we want to get about all of this :p

1. Final Fantasy (NES)
2. Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)
3. Shadowgate (NES)
4. Phantasy Star 2 (Genesis)
5. Metal Gear (NES)
6. Contra (NES)
7. Legend of Zelda (NES)
8. Tecmo Super Bowl 3 (SNES)
9. Dragons Lair (Sega CD)
10. The Immortal (Genesis)

Fixed it. Thanks for the heads up.

I made three seperate threads so they can be looked at individually...not so much a cumulation of all three.

I'm liking the lists so far. I definitely agree with Tetris, the Lunar games, Super Mario World, and Final Fantasy. All amazing choices. My problem with a few of the NES games is that I love them but I suck at them too. For example, Contra. I love playing that game but I can't do jack beyond the first level without the use of cheat codes and cheat codes make me lose interest in games because all the challenge is gone.

Probably not in order

10. Super Mario Bros 3 (NES)
09. Tetris (NES)
08. Tecmo Super Bowl (NES)
07. Mutant League Football (Genesis)
06. Super Mario World (SNES)
05. Castlevania III (NES)
04. Pokemon (GameBoy)
03. Sonic Spinball (Genesis)
02. Gradius (NES)
01. World Series Baseball (Game Gear)

Why isn't the Game Gear on that list?

10. Toe Jam & Earl - Genesis
09. Zombies Ate My Neighbors - SNES
08. Super Ghouls & Ghosts - Snes
07. Ghouls & Ghosts - Genesis
06. Ghosts & Goblins - NES
05. Super Punch Out - SNES
04. Kid Icarus - NES
03. Rock N Roll Racing - SNES
02. Lemmings - SNES
01. Super Mario World - SNES

I basically bought every new system due to the Ghost N Goblins upgrade it had. And yes, they all had them.. NES, Genesis, to the SNES... wierd.

Metroid (NES)
Rygar (NES)
Karnov (NES)
Dr. Mario (NES)
Kung Fu (NES)
Castlevania II - Simon's Quest (NES)
Mortal Kombat II (SNES)
Monopoly (SNES)
Resident Evil 2 (PS1)
Oddworld (PS1)

Super Mario Bros. 3 (NES)
Mega Man 2 (NES)
The Legend of Zelda (NES)
Tecmo Super Bowl (NES)
Tetris (GB)
The Legend of Zelda: Link to the Past (SNES)
Super Mario Kart (SNES)
Super Mario World (SNES)
Super Metroid (SNES)
Gunstar Heroes (GEN)

This is a tough list to put together as I feel there are so many great games from that era that should be included. I miss those days. Good times.

Hell, I miss carts in general. Discs just don't carry the same feel..

And if you drop a cart...not the end of the world. Drop your disc on the ground and it is scratched to hell. It is slightly better now with Blu Ray and the extra coating but still I loved the cart.

In no particular order:
Super Mario All Stars + World (under the gun, with a 1994 release)
Legend of Zelda (first three)
Final Fantasy IV
Final Fantasy VI
Castlevania
Tetris
