Was bored and started thinking of some of the dumbest passes I have made regarding game buys.

#1 that stands out since ive been buying the past 3 years was when i went to check out a set of cabs off CL for $100. I was first to get there but took my car instead of van since i wasn't sure on buying them yet. Guy didnt tell me games on phone just said a sports game, fighting game and some truck game.

I get there and the games were Pit Fighter, John Elways QB *big edition w/ 4 players* and Moon Patrol. I can't believe i passed on this deal because every game worked great and Moon Patrol was beautiful! Monitor had a little burn but nothing to detract buying for $33.

Being new to the hobby, Moon Patrol didnt do it for me at the time. Of course i played the Atari 2600 version when i was a kid and dabbled with it in the arcades but it wasn't something i wanted to take up room.

After being in the hobby for 3 years i now regret that pass more then anything because Moon Patrols look nice! Hell I think all Williams cabs look great!

I did finally decide to call the guy a few weeks after my visit and he had mentioned to me that the games were sold the day before i called him back. :( It was from that point on i knew i had to move immediately on games.

Complete, immaculate Krull for $175, about 1 hr North of me. I couldn't talk him down to $150. *kick* ow *kick* ow.

When I had just started collecting, there was a Gauntlet for sale on CL about 90 min drive north from Harrisburg PA.

Complete and working except for player 3 and 4 joystick (turned out to be a misaligned pin in the molex connector), and missing side art on one side.

For 50 bucks.

I passed it on to my friend who wasn't a collector but had always wanted a Gauntlet.

It's gone now.

I'm too nice a guy :).

I passed up a very nice DK Jr for $150. I think the ad was in a newspaper, so that's how long ago it was. I saw an ad for a DK for $150. I went out to the house and it was a really nice guy who wanted to get rid of it because his kids din't play it anymore. It was the only game he had and it was dusty but in really nice shape and played excellent. I had just started in the hobby and when Isaw it was a DK Jr. I said no thanks. I think he was more surprised than I was. I told him I wanted a DK and just didn't have the room since I was in an apartment at the time and didn't have the bar yet. I still kick myself for that one.

I passed on a Ms. Pac Man for $150 the same day I brought home 2 Firepower pins. I didnt think I had room. Now that I think about it. I could have easily made room. UGH....

I bought three converted games from an antique store for $150 - they were all classics that were converted: Punch-Out!!, Missile Command, and Popeye, they seemed salvageable (at the time). He said he got a bunch of them in a storage auction. I was very excited, and - feeling like I just scored - just wanted to get the the hell out of there. He kept telling me he had more games that wouldn't turn on, but I wasn't interested, didn't want to spend any more money. He said they were in the back, and he was just trying to get rid of them, and that didn't want to pay the trash company to haul them away.

It didn't dawn on me until the next day that he must've had a bunch of non-working games (duh, when you get a storage space full of games, there's probably a bunch of them that are non-working) and was trying to GIVE them to me - for FREE. I had rented a large truck with a liftgate and it would've been no problem to haul them away!

To this day, I wonder what he had. It could've been ANYTHING! And that's what haunts me. Sigh.

Not sure if it's my dumbest pass or smartest. I was offered a working Tron for a decent price (can't remember exactly, but it was a good deal overall). I passed because Tron is a game that absolutely demands full restoration and the art package for Tron alone runs around $500...

How could you not at least LOOK?!?! You were THERE!

Space Harrier Cockpit for $25.00
wasnt up for the 3 hour drive.

Pretty dumb, huh? At the time I didn't know that what he had in parts could have been way more valuable than the three working games I was hauling away.

FWIW, I went back about two weeks later when I happened to be in the area, but the place was closed up, not out of business, just a day he wasn't normally open. I looked around back and saw nothing. I was probably too late. :(

Hindsight is 20/20 you know. :D The very first place I bought a game was a little auction house in Tucson, AZ. I went there on a Monday night and there were a bunch opf games. Went back on Saturday for the auction and over 50% of it was gone, including most oif what I was looking at. Latrer found out that was because there was an auction for those games the Saturday prior and people just had not picked up what they had bought yet. :( Thanks for telling me that when I was there last Monday.

Food Fight. I could have gotten a Food Fight for a good price. I passed. I am still a bit bummed.

However, a friend got it instead. So, that's not so bad. :)

Well, it was an auction in my hometown 14+ years ago. Opening bid was always $25 and the auctioneer always gave it to this one lady. He wouldn't let us go $30, we had to go $35, and we were poor-right-out-of-college. We didn't know/realize they were just buy backs.

Anyways, there were 100s of classics and we only picked up (4) because we were irritated at the auctioneer and this lady and because we only had a pickup truck. I bet there were 150+ that she bought back for $25 that we could have had for $35/each.

We figured we'd hit the next auction and maybe she wouldn't be there. That ended up being the last auction in my town. I've got all the titles/prices written down, but I haven't looked at it in forever.

There was a *mint* Pinbot that went for like $300 (way out of my price range at the time). I played one ball while the auctioneer went through a whole row of pins. He made a comment about how well it was playing and told me to keep playing.

Another one for me was Fire Ball 2 for $200. Ugh although an older pin, i was just in the market and definately couldve learned on this one.
