Well, after spending part of the morning being blown away by the prices at SuperAuctions in Greenville, I came home and started my most ambitious project yet...here is the log:

Subject: Bootleg Q-Bert in a Taito cab (still not sure what cab it was)
Problem: Bad DC Power Supply and no Monitor at all

So, I swapped out the power supply and everything played blind. Still no monitor (GO7-CBO). Upon further examination, blown flyback. I assumed the worst and ordered the following:

Cap Kit
Flyback
HOT
Regulator Trans
R908
Rectifier Diodes
901 and 902 Fuses
X701

Took everything out and washed it down. After it dried for a couple of weeks, time to get to work. I had done two cap kits previously and to my surprise, the games came on after those, so I felt ready.

I pulled the flyback (the devil, btw). Then ran all the caps. Not sure how to check X701, so I went ahead and replaced that, ditto with R908 - replaced just to be sure. Rectifier Diodes checked out ok so left them alone, and only needed F901, so replaced that. The Regulator Transistor checked ok so left it alone. Finished up by replacing the flyback - had to bend the pins a little to get it to fit in place.

I had already built a new AC/DC power supply board courtesy of Bob Roberts, so the moment of truth came and.........it powered right up! I could not believe it. Adjusted the brightness and focus and now playing Q*bert!

I am not sure the colors are right - they are all there but the boards look a little out of whack.

Now I have to finish rewiring the entire cab and then get to work on cosmetics. Looking forward to that! Just had to take a moment and brag a little! My $75 Q-bert is up and running!

Cheers -

-Scott
