Passed out on the couch after a long night of rebuilding a Turbo Outrun cab, and woke up to the wife telling me how she "fixed" the joystick on Pac Man for my daughter.

She told me the stick was stiff, and she thought it needed oiled. Alright, that woke me up.

She put some 3 in 1 oil on the joystick through the top on the cp! OH MY GOD! Feels goofy as hell now.

How the heck do I get it off there?

ps: told the wife that it's ok...if it gets "stiff" again, I'll take care of it. Ughhh!!!

Dude, aren't there ground rules for your arcade stuff? :)

But hey, at least she tried to help you out. My wife just rolls her eyes at my games and parts. Then again, that might be a good thing based on what happened to you.

Sorry man.

you could probably take it all apart and wash the individual parts with soap and water. Just make sure to dry off quickly and completely

Definitely cleaning it up. Working with hot soapy water right now. Drying parts quick. On the up side, at least this way I see I need a new centering gromet.....

As long as I dry stuff of quick, shouldn't be an issue...time consuming.

Gonna have to hide the glue gun, stapler, hammer, and screwdrivers I have laying around.

At least she meant well.

Hide the hammer.

or....

pick up the hammer! Ohhh oh oooohhh

I'm sorry, I cannot stop laughing at this. My friends (I'm single) can't even grasp the concept of don't put your drink on my ($1000 HUO) Food Fight cocktail, I won't let them anywhere near when I've got them opened up to do work...

The thing here is I let my other half do the operator thing when I'm not here, or outside. Frees me up to actually do some mowing or whatever. She does stick coin mechs, changes marquee bulbs & starters, but if it's something she just don't get, she backs off, and tells the kids it's out of order, and when I get done with what I'm doing, I fix it. usually some small problem.

A little off topic (okay alot) but this reminds me of when me and my brother were about 8 and 9 and we got this wonderful idea that we could make our cat's coat nice and shiny by applying a little... you guessed it, 3 in 1 oil. I think that probably made top 5 in most pissed off I've seen my mom. Both cats were fine BTW.

When i got my Astron Belt the previous owner took some sort of lube and squirted it in the Joystick.

I took off the front panel and used a can of compressed air. That did the job.

My dad was telling me about a friend of his and a MG he just bought. The breaks were squeaking and somebody joked that he should oil them. He didn't know they were joking and he oiled his breaks....

Not good.....

Not if he plans on stopping. :D That's hilarious. Sounds like something I might do... ;)

If you didn't want to take it apart you could spray the shit out of it with a de-greaser like breaklean. That would clean it all up and get rid of the oil. It will not harm the plastic or rubber either.
