Ok thanks to mod, dick, and dokert, I got my monitor working perfectly.

The only other issue I have is that the sound is not working.
I adjusted what appears to be a volume pot on the board with no change.
I did a diagnostic and went through the sound portion of it, and the board ran it's
tests like nothing was wrong but I had no sound.

so I measured some voltages right on the pcb edge connector.
+5 had +4.84
+12 had -.01

what should be my next move? This game does not use a switcher, it uses what I would call a gottlieb power board. This game is qbert's brother the way it is constructed and wired.

Get your +12 back and you'll probably get your sound....

I looked through the manual I printed on crazykong.com and thought it mentioned the +12 when referring to sound, though I don't remember with certainty right now.

How do you suggest I go about it? :O)

Figure out where it's supposed to be coming from on your power supply, then measure for it there. if it's not there, look into repairing or replacing the power supply.

That's assuming you've already checked all the fuses....

yea I checked the fuses but I will go do that again.

here is a picture of my power supply and in particular where the +12 should be.
It measures .10 at that point. solder looks recently reflowed on the back of the connector.

couple extra pics of my cab in case someone can i.d. it. it's a gottlieb cab.

fun times here!

I've never had the blessing of working with a linear power supply. am I correct in understanding that each rail has its own fuse block, and that if the unit stops putting out a certain voltage that you just have to rebuild it?

read a lot about the fuse holders on the Williams/Midway stuff being of inferior build quality, could this happen here too?

ok I just rechecked the fuses on the power board

at positions:
f31
f32
the fuses are blowing immediately at power up.

when I got the machine they were dead, and had 1/4 amp 250 v fuses in there.
So that's what I replaced them with. I have no way of knowing if those are the proper fuses for those positions or not.

Anyone out there know?

your cab looks very much like that Reactor one you posted.

apparently that cab was home to a great many Centuri games, this game was a Konami one right? so I'm gonna just act stupid and assume that might be the original PSU that came with a Reactor. :x

maybe check a manual for that, see if anything matches.

well page 8 of the reactor manual appears to show that the 1/4 amp fuse was the correct one. So if that is true I am blowing them fuckers at power up and need to figure out why.

maybe wiring this to a switcher should be in my future.

lol

yeah, I can't see them using any funky voltages, I imagine this one probably just uses like +5 and +12, right?

might just need to make an adapter for it, like a Konami classic or whatever the hell it is to JAMMA.

I only know JAMMA shit, so I can't lend much help here other than just throwing out some ideas.

maybe trace the wires back, see if anything's shorted. see if anything's cooked, maybe. you're only missing +12, so I can't imagine it's anything majorly bad.

EDIT: by majorly bad, it's not like the PSU isn't working at all, the game at least runs, minus the sound.

What do you need? You should have the PS out on a bench, measuring every diode, transistor, resistor, etc looking for shorts, and then replacing parts as needed. Also, in that pic (if it's your board) it looks like a part is missing...

that's the advice I was looking for, thanks mod.
yeah that's the board, I didn't get the bottom half of it in the pic,
where some wires are coming out and going to numerous places in the cabinet.

but yeah I may be missing something, I wouldn't know.

It looks to me like you are missing D26, a 1N5363B zener diode (30v, 5%).

While this is needed for Q*Bert, I don't know if it is necessary for how that conversion was done...
