Yet Another Robotron

I love bondo glass, I used it all the time to rebuild/repair bumpers on my car, esp like you said good for large holes..

just becarefull bondoglass sets up faster than regular bondo

other than the bottom that cab looks good to me, my sinistar was all munched up on the bottom like that , after i used wood hardener on the loose stuff i cut 3/16 off on the bottom of the sides and the back. the back still had a big chunk out after that so i used a 3/8 1/4 round bit and router on it to clean it up.

I can see why guys chop off the bottom and biscuit-join new wood on. This is the most extensive damage I've had to repair and it's a real pain with just bondo and it takes a long time (and time is something in short supply these days). I think I will give the "cut off bad wood and replace with new" route a try next time. I love buying tools and this gives me a perfect excuse.

I worked on it a little last night and got the bad side completely bondo'ed and sanded. Now to work on the other side which isn't bad and the bottom of the back; then ready for paint. Stopping at Home Depot on the way home today and getting myself some painting supplies. Hopefully, I'll have this thing painted, cleaned, and standing on new casters by next week. Then I can move it inside and start on the wiring.

Did more....you guessed it....bondo. Mainly filling in any gouges or scratches this time instead of wholesale wood replacement. I did, however, fix the lower back which was a lot of filling and shaping.

Cabinet should be ready for paint soon finally.

Finally got the game to show life! Not keeping the switcher; for diagnostic purposes only. But how nice to see the game working.

i've been following your restore and happy your board set worked perfectly [hope the sound works].

i also just ordered the switcher kit for mcr games but i wont rebuild the original. [too much acid damage for the battery].

hopefully mine comes back to life too.

Thanks, cloak. I appreciate you following along. Glad at least one person is watching my videos. :)

Yeah I hope the sound works too; I'm guessing that it's just the sound turned off in options/dips, but I didn't hear the startup sound so that does have me a bit worried.

I ordered an MCR rebuild kit for my Tapper's power supply recently. No acid damage and no hum, but original caps, so I figure I'll get those replaced and save the rest of the kit for later.

If you could only see how this Robotron was living....

Like I said in my first episode, I wasn't looking for a Robotron, but saw this one on Let Go and threw out a low offer. Guy took it and I went to go get it. What a disaster that place was. If I remember, I'll tell the story in my next video. So long story short, I'm very happy I "saved" this game and got it to show life. I'm sure you'll get yours up and running. Biggest issues seem to be power supply and RAM related with these.

it always good when you can save one for the trash pile that's for sure.

looking forward to the origin story of this robotron =)

Fixed the voltage problems. Even did some work on camera this time where I lift two solder pads off the power supply; fun! At any rate, here it is:

Thank you, Sir. I'm guessing the CPU or PIA is bad on the sound board. Speaker seems to be ok. The more problems I have, the more videos I can make. :)

I actually ordered a proper camera and tripod that comes tomorrow. Should make things a little better video-wise.
