This is a followup to the following two threads:

- Have you ever pulled a bonehead stunt? (link)
- Will a Joust fit in a TrailBlazer? (link)

I didn't get a chance to answer the second question, but the answer to a similar question "Will a Joust fit in a Ford Edge?", is yes, just barely (see Hauling Tip at the end of this post).

The easiest way to tell this tale is probably as a timeline:
5:00am - `!#$%#$^' alarm goes off
5:45am - out the door to the airport
6:30am - car parked, shuttle to the terminal, going through security
7:25am - plane pushes back from the gate (5 minutes early ?!?)
8:45am - plane touches down in Tulsa (30 minutes early ??!??)
9:30am - picked up the Chevy TrailBlazer, I mean, Ford Edge and hit the road
10:30am - arrived at the front gate of Dry Gulch U.S.A.
10:45am - got my first look at the Joust. It is in amazingly good condition. Spent a few minutes talking with Stephen (the guy running the Ebay auctions, very cool guy) and got a quick tour, including a couple of their arcades. Very nice. No redemption machines. Lots of classics.
11:20am - hit the road for Houston.

2:30pm - hit the Texas border, stop for gas and stretch legs.

7:30pm - arrive home. Unload. Feed dogs. Stretch.
8:30pm - Return Edge to rental at IAH. Shuttle back to airport. Shuttle back to parking lot. Get in car and drive home.
9:30pm - grab a bite to eat. Watch the news and go to bed.

A very long day. But the results will be worth it. Somebody put a switcher into it. The CPU appears to be dead (bars on screen), so it is time to get out the meter and start to debug.

Oh yes, pictures or it didn't happen. I don't have any of the trip, I forgot my camera and I never remember the camera on my phone, Doh! But here it is sitting in my air conditioned auxilliary video game repair facility (known by my wife as the dining room (what a stupid name we never dine there ).

Hauling Tip:
The way to fit a fullsized video game into an Edge is to:
(1) Move the passenger seat allllllllll the way forward.
(2) lay the game on its side with the tall part towards the passenger seat.
(3) PUSH. HARD. Then push some more. It will fit. But not by much.

I saved about $20 over the shipping quote. The SUV rental, gas and time were the only things it cost me (I work for an airline so parking, shuttles and flight were free). And the drive was nice because work couldn't bother me.

Update:
Replaced the MPU board, tweaked the monitor and cleaned the contacts and added a lock. Results:

Still need to get the marquee light working.

I'll give you $100 for it? :)

I've got one in my garage I'll sell for $100. Now, it is missing a monitor, coin door, control panel, bezel, marquee light and game boards. But it is in great shape other than that .... :D

Edit: Oh and its missing the top back door, too!
Edit2: and the game wiring harness.

Is it missing the cabinet too? :)

 Wow! And I did not want to drive from Oklahoma City. Looks like you got a great deal, glad it was an easy fix too.

Nope, here it is. I think I have all of the parts, just haven't assembled them.

Does it have the optic joys or leaf?

It has mechanical joysticks. Optical joysticks are very rare. I have 1 (out of about 15 Jousts I have bought/sold/rebuilt). It took 6 months of looking before I found a pair of Joust optical joysticks and than 3 days later somebody offered me an entire working control panel. Go figure. (And yes I did buy the control panel, it is on my "keeper" Joust).

Keep a watch on the Ebay ads. Stephen will be having a MultiWilliams in a Defender cabinet go on sale soon. It is sweet. I don't know if it works, but based on the fact that it didn't have Sinistar listed as one of the games, I'm guessing that it is a Clay MW set not JROK. It has custom sideart and in in great condition. No visible water damage and the MDF hasn't gone fuzzy anywhere so it can't have been stored for very long. It is actually one of the few things that I would bid on again at that distance from me.

I've got one that's missing the cab, too. I'd let it go for a mere $50... ;)

Yeah, I was thinking that if I bought one w/o the cabinet too that:

1) Pickup would be a snap -- I could just paypal the money over and I'm done; there'd be nothing to pick up.

2) Since there isn't any cab or anything else I'd have room for it in my gameroom.

3) There's nothing to break or that will need to be fixed -- ever!

What's not to like?
