Yesterday a $50.00 Blasteroids, Today an $80.00 Asteroids

It has been a good couple of days...

Saw an ad on Craigslist for both an Asteroids ($100) advertised as non-working (He said just needed fuses...I am sure that is all it needs as well... j/k) and a Working Galaxian ($200)..

I was not interested in the Galaxian, however I was in the Asteroids. I have just never had good luck with Vectors (gave up on my battlezone).

After some emailing back and forth I got over there tonight and the Asteroids was plugged in (Buzzing and the marquee are lit). I looked over the cabinet and the sideart is in really good shape. Looked inside and it looks like it is in good shape. The neck on the CRT is glowing (Good sign).... None of the start lights are lit though. Also the control panel has a little rust on it.. All of the CP graphics are painted on..

I asked to see the Galaxian thinking that maybe I can by both cheap.. He plugged it in and nothing.... Just the marquee..

I offered $80.00 for the Asteroids and he took it..(Another Project)..

I just got it home and measured the voltage output from the Power Supply and the +5 test point is reading 1.6v... I had the same problem with my Battlezone.. Time to buy a big blue tomorrow...

I am feeling pretty good about my collection now.. I went from having too many games that I did not really care about to a very good start to a collection of games from my childhood.. Right now in my garage are Asteroids, Pac-man, Donkey Kong 3 (Will change to Donkey Kong), Centipede, and Spy Hunter.....

Here are some pics of the Asteroids.. Also, the color owner's manual and schematic are included...

Chris

Ha!

I can beat this one :)

I got my working Asteroids for $50, in pretty damn good shape to boot.

Still $80 for one is pretty dang great in it's own right ;)

Edit: Clean the heck out of the fuse holders on the P/S, the Tempest I have had about the same symptoms, I took apart and cleaned/checked the fuses and it powered right up, checked the B+ and it was perfect.

Buy them all day long at that price!! Nice Score!!

Good advice if you have the room. I now have two Asteroids, one non-working but a decent project, and I only want to keep the working one. Unfortunately I am having a hard time finding a good home for the project cab. Point is, sometimes prices that low can lead to too much of a good thing.

That Asteroids looks like it will clean up nice. The control panel looks better than many. If just of the black looks icky, you could mask and respray just the black in semi gloss.

If you're going to order a big blue, I highly recommend you also order an AR1 rebuild kit. Might as well be done with it and know that it's getting solid power.

Congrats! You might want to set aside $110 for an Asteroids Deluxe tomorrow and $140 for a Space Duel on Monday.

There's not much demand in Southern California for stand up arcade games these days, even at those prices.

You're not telling us anything that we already don't know - people are practically giving the stuff away that people on KLOV have spent good money to buy and fix up. All of the So Cal collectors see those same ads, and we're passing. That's just the way it's become.

There's just no demand.
