I plan on heading over to Yestercades in Red Bank tonight probably from around 5:30pm or so till closing (9pm?). If any KLOVers are around, I'll likely be the only one with a Red Cardinals hat on.

Very cool place. Definitely reminds me of like a version of Flynn's with the store front facing the busy street. Cool to play near the front and watch out the window while you play. Very clean inside and very friendly people. One thing I thought was a bit strange was I noticed while I was playing that staff would go around and randomly start games on things and walk away. I'm not sure why they do this, start up sound ambiance maybe? Just noticed it because Pole Position is a pain to kill off, lol.

I thought I recalled seeing their tech post/read KLOV so I'll comment on what I played.

DK Jr: Plays very well, kill screened it there last night

Pole Position: If I recall, the bezel is blocking a decent portion of the monitor, looks like it fell out of place and makes it tough to see the right side of the road. Controls drifted to the right.

Millipede: Arguably the nicest playing Millipede I've played on, TB must have been rebuilt, very nice

Mario Bros (WB): Played very well, nice looking cab

Galaxian: Played well

Tron: Played perfectly and nice cab condition

Donkey Kong: Has a white top replacement jump button that gets stuck. If not replaced with an original DK jump button, then probably just swap one of the Player 1 or 2 start buttons with it in the meantime.

Arkanoid: Played fine

Centipede: Needs a trackball rebuild. Initials scrolled through by themselves.

I am eager to go back soon, I really dig the vibe there and the 80's videos you can watch from anywhere in the arcade. Great work!

Yep, I'm the one who's been doing service. I only met Ken (the owner) a few
days before he opened. Until then he was unfortunate to have a couple techs
who didn't know their arse from a hole in the wall.

Since I don't have a lot of free time my priority was to get everything up and
running (there were a lot of dark screens on 10/12). Now with everything going
I've been able to start concentrating on the playability issues. I know about Pole
Position, just haven't had a chance to get to it. I've done a lot of cap kits over
the last two months. My last few trips I've had my rejuvenator in hitting the
weak tubes.

Klax had some monitor and controller issues and I got that ironed out 100%
my last trip. Super Mario Bros, Battlezone NBA Jam were also some controller
issues that have been resolved. The Cruisin' World has a temporary LCD
while the real monitor is in my shop waiting for me to find some time to get
it running (Damned Nanaos).

I definitely like to hear about the things I miss. 16 pinballs take a lot of time
to keep running and they still have various problems I'm trying to sort out.
(Gorgar, Power Play and Sorcerer were DOA so that was a couple trips worth
of work). I could probably spend a week just breaking down and refurbishing
the pins.

I've been meaning to ask why they randomly start games.

Did you notice the arcade ambiance soundtrack they play on the speakers
outside the building ? Very cool when you walk by.

Yeah that was really cool. I really dig the look and feel of the place and it's great to hear that they've got a knowledgeable tech now like yourself to work on the games. That's a great combination. I am close by so I will be back on a regular basis.

Now about that scoreboard request.....lol :)

Last I saw on FB they said that was sort of their next implementation they want to accomplish so that's cool. Probably would work well by having a few small LCD's scattered around to display that.

I found it funny that when there were a few patrons with kids there besides just me, they played 80's videos and when they left, they put on a Black Sabbath concert dvd. Then when others came in they switched it back. I'm fine with either :)

Yestercades...

I have to go check them out soon. Looks & sounds like a great place!

PCJOHN - I see you are in NJ - you do tech work in Philly too?

I've already written a basic scoreboard program, the idea will be to have
it on some 50" monitors. It's just tough to find time to keep up with all
of these projects.

Not right now, too busy with Jersey Jack getting this
pinball going.

I love this place!

After we were done (the last time that we were there) I went to pay up. He checks our wristbands and says "three hours". I said that he must be wrong. I figured that we were there for an hour or so. We got there at 12 so I figured it was around 1. It was three thirty!

Talk about warping time!

Took the wife with me there last night. We had a great time, she rocked some Bubble Bobble to the tune of nearly 1m and I had a score to settle with the Galaxians (pic). Saturday specifically is a great value as you can get an all day pass and theoretically be there for over half a day if you want to, they close at 2am. We ate at the Dublin House for dinner which is right around the corner from Yestercades and I had a steak and she had Chilean sea bass which were both awesome. Red Bank is a great town to convince your wife/significant other to go to the arcade as they have lots of shops and some great places to eat. Rock on kids.

Yestercades

I took my sons up to Yestercades last Sunday. Well worth the trip from South Jersey. Ken is a great guy and he really seems to be doing it right. Most of all the games were up & running and he had a number of classics to choose from. I highly recommend stopping by if you can. The Silverball museum in Asbury Park is also a short ride away.
