Just got another DK cabinet from CL, I had been pretty unhappy with the fiberboard cab mine is in and didn't really feel like putting any work into it.

Now with the new cab my project begins.....

Looks like it started life as a DK, made it's way to a Mario Bros, and finally Ghost's and Goblins.

Will be jumping into it headfirst so wish me luck.... :)

Good luck! Looks like you have a lot of work ahead of you, but I love seeing these trash to minty restores. Solid wood is definitely the way to go. So you're going to have a second DK?

Are you going to keep it JAMMA and use a Nintendo to JAMMA adapter or is this going to be a full restore where you'll be treasure hunting all the original/repro parts? Or do you have something else in mind?

Did it still have the G&G PCB in it? That's still a great game to have if you ever get around to having a JAMMA cab or finding another cab for the kit.

Sorry for all the questions. Just excited to see how it all turns out. :)

Holy cow!!! I haven't learned enough yet to answer you correctly.... :(

My plan is to restore this cab and use the pieces and innards from mine to make it a fresh minty one :)
I'm in good shape with the parts from mine just I am very unhappy with the cab itself.

It looks like it only came with a power supply in the bottom and most of the coin door/mechs, mine are in better shape so I think I'll be using mine, other than that the control panel, smoked bezel, and ghost's and goblins marquee are extra throwaways to me at least.

Looks like the tech is ready to go to work.:)

Haha sorry. I see. I didn't get that you were were going to take parts from your current DK and make a nice minty one using the solid wood cab.

Yeah, it looks like other than the power supply and coin door, the inside just has the JAMMA harness that is not compatible with your DK board.

Your dog is cute. My dog is the same way. Always curious what I'm working on. I think he tries to tell me that I'm doing something wrong. :D

Minor update:

Finished stripping the guts out, on to patching holes with Bondo, selected my paint, the anticipation is killing me....

Looks good so far. Did you already sand? That is my least favorite part of the process.

Yes Sir I have, I have to slow down though...I feel like I'm rushing the project and will end up screwing something up.

Nah, as long as you know what you're doing, you'll be fine. Painting is the one step you should take your time on if anything. Take your time and always let coats dry. Your hard work will pay off in the end.

That cab may have started out rough but look on the bright side, at least it came with the coin box!

Yes I am thankfull for all the small things...lol...

looks like your dog is hunting for loose change!

I thougth all KLOV dog owners have theirs trained the same way?;)

nah, unfortunately I only have a couple of cats and they seem to be trained to jump on control panels and scratch at their reflection in the bezel.

Oh I have one of those too, can't leave any panel on any machine open, he barricades himself inside and is pretty darn hard too pry out...

Quick question:

The carridge bolt faces on the front of the coin door, should they be black same as the door or is it ok to have them sliver like this?

SSL11477.jpg

The DK I currently own the bolts are balck, the new cab I bought the bolts are silver.....(pic borrowed from Phetishboy...because it's so clean)

The bolts are never supposed to be painted. They should have a clean metal finish as pictured in Phet's photo. So I would remove the paint off the bolts you have.

Cool, Thanks!

I have two set's, the ones that were in the all wood cab I'm restoring (silver), and the ones that are currently in my fiberboard cab (painted black)...glad I didn't start painting the silver ones...

Minor Update

Finished primary painting, it's decent but far from perfect....but I'm happy with it, I have to detail the black trim in a few spots, getting close to putting the T-molding and then on to putting the hardware in. :)

Still waiting on the t-molding to arrive, also getting the side-art soon, couldn't wait and had to have the garage space so I brought it in the house :)
