Hit a tag sale with my son, and we found a beautiful Vectrex in the box with 5 games, Star Trek, Cosmic Chase, Scramble, Blitz, and Armor Attack. Between that and the 150 feet of TOMY track with 6 trains I acquired, we have enough to keep us busy for a while :) I was already to negotiate a price until the guy told me 60 total for both, done deal!

The Vectrex is in amazing shape, not even a scratch!

Ok, that's just cool. Are they actually available for sale??

I have never really connected with anyone else who collects classic console games. I've got a massive collection all the way up to and including the N64. I also have a sweet spot for classic Atari/Commodore/Amiga computer systems. Yeah, over the top, as usual. :)

I'll be flying up. I can imagine trying to get a Vectrex through security. LOL. Uh, what's this? IT'S A BOMB!!! They give me grief EVERY single time I try to get a laptop through. Argh!!!

Dave

maybe you should bring me one at the show in seattle next week... :)

Great find!

The retail release Vectrex library was made public domain about 10 years ago, so there are a few multicarts as MrBill mentioned. Sean Kelly's was first but there are now cheaper alternatives. Both the Sean Kelly and Playntrade multicarts are menu driven roms with the retail games and a decent selection of homebrews. There are a few cheap dipswitch driven multicarts too. But with the weak British pound Playntrade's is probably the best option right now if you want a plug n play multicart. (~$45 shipped)

The only programmable cart is the Vectrex.biz VecFlash. It's a little bit of setup but you can load it up with whatever set of games you want, including some of the newer homebrews. (as long as they're 32k or less)

Some of the Vectrex homebrews are better than the old retail games. Larger ROM sizes allow massive 64k games that weren't possible in the early 80's. Check out vectrexcarts.com for a decent selection of cheap homebrews. Gravitrex Plus (Gravitar) and Protector/YASI (Defender/Space Invaders) are excellent. Thrust and Space Frenzy are fun too. Many of the older homebrews are also available on the multicarts, but not the larger most recent games.

I was so happy with my new purchase until I realized I have opened yet another bottomless abyss of possible accesories, games and multicarts lol... I'm still thrilled but I don't need any more obsessive parts to this hobby lol. I'll definitely pick up a multicart, however, I'm curious what some of the new games available are. Hell I'm having fun just playing Star Trek!

Theres another project in the works at Atariage.com that involves the atarivox rev 2. It will be a multivox add-on for either Atari or Vectrex. On the Vectrex it allows for the newer homebrews that incorporate speech to be possible (like Space Frenzy or Berzerk).

I'm curious to see where the atarivox project goes!!

Back in the days of the Atari 2600, that's when I got my first Data I/O eprom/prom programmer.... :)
