Hey guys,
got my first cps2 game today and I'm having some trouble with the sound.

First off, the sound amp I'm using is out of a Naomi system. not sure if that makes any difference, but I know the sound amp is working since I tried it out on a Street Fighter ex pcb by plugging one end of the stereo jacks into the sound amp, and I cut off the other end and attached the wires to the pins of the stereo output on the street fighter EX pcb and it worked. so today is my first time directly hooking up the stereo jacks from the sound amp to the cps2 A board and it's not working.

I went in test mode and my volume is at max, and I did a rom test and the sound rom checks out ok. anybody have any other ideas?

Hold the volume down button in as you turn the cabinet on. Wait for the game to boot before you let go then try to turn the volume up.

I gave that a try, no luck. I also reseated the board a number of times and nothing.

tomorrow I will have a lot more time to play around with it. I wish I had another cps2 game to test with or A board, but I'm thinking it might be the A board. I have a sunset Riders pcb thats in my konami cab that has a stereo output on it, gonna pull it out and see if I get sound out of that sound amp again. just to make sure its not the amp or my setup.

A board might need to be cleaned. happened to me before when the sound would go in and out on one of mine.

might need a good cleaning anyway... the fans get super dirty. :)

took apart the A board and the board looks pretty clean. all the caps look good... I don't see any bad solder joints or broken caps anywhere. When you say clean the A board? did you mean the contacts for the jamma edge?

I wired up my cab mono off the jamma edge so at least I have sound, but I've pretty much given up on the stereo qsound with the sound amp. maybe later on I will buy a capcom qsound amp and try again.

more or less give it what I call an "alcohol bath", it's where I just take an old toothbrush dipped in rubbing alcohol and go over the entire board to remove the muck from it. I actually took apart the service/volume buttons on mine to clean the contacts underneath.

magically the A board played sound again, I don't know what I did otherwise.

I was hoping you'd get this to work, cause I have an extra NAOMI amp sitting around in my parts that I wanted to rig up in my SFA3 cab.

just for fun, did you try plugging the stereo jacks into like a TV and see if you get sound through there? (to at least rule out whether it's the board or the amp itself)

I'm gonna pull out the sound amp this weekend when I have free time and look it over.

I think something must of happened to it, but the timing is so weird. cause it was working fine when I hooked it up to the stereo output of a Street fighter EX pcb. I then took out the street fighter EX pcb and shipped it to a member, and when I got the Xmen vs street fighter I popped it in there and no sound. the cab wasn't used at all the whole time. so for something to happen to the sound amp withing that time is weird.

I did however plug in a dvd player into the stereo jacks and got no sound. so I have to believe something happened to the sound amp.

silly question, but is the amp getting power? the Naomi amp has that large black power supply box thing.
