I did a cap kit on this monitor, but it still looks the same as it did before. The top right is dark, and the image looks a little tilted. Do I need to adjust the yoke to fix that? I have never tried that, so not sure what it involves. Also, the image is not the same everywhere on the screen. There are some lighter areas, you can see them best in the top left, also, there is a faint line down the middle. When playing, it looks like you are watching the game from a recording. You can see the refresh like watching a recording of it, if that make sense.

Any ideas on what to adjust? I want to try to get this looking great for CAX, but I really don't want to make it worse trying to fix it. :)

Thanks,
Paul

Yeah, the yoke is misadjusted. It's tilted, and too far back on the tube (the black spot in the corner). Loosen the yoke clamp, and adjust it. There is no convergence to worry about on a black and white monitor - just snug it up to the bell of the tube and straighten it out. If you do it while the game is on, you can simply adjust it for the best positioning. If you're scared to do that, just try to get it level. Then tighten the clamp back up - but only so it's snug - don't crank it down too far. When you loosen it, remember how many turns, and tighten it down the same number of turns (of course, if it's loose already, might need to tighten it a bit more...)

thanks Ian! I will give that a try when I get home tonight. Should I be scared to try to adjust it while it is on? :)

I tried to adjust the yoke, and I straightened it a little, but it was already up against the tube. While I was adjusting, I got the image pretty small, and I could see that the geometry is way off. The right side is smaller vertically than the left side, and it is a bit rounded as it tapers down. Camera is charging so I couldn't get pics tonight. The image is always a bit off to the right as well. I tried to adjust the horizontal, and the image would move, but not the edge. The black on the left stays put.

You can also adjust the position of the image with the centering rings on the yoke - they're little metal rings with tabs you can turn, they look a bit like convergence rings - but they adjust the fine tuning of the picture position. Also, try rocking the yoke a bit - that black spot definitely looks like what you get if you have the yoke too far back - maybe it's just sitting at an angle to the tube. You can see the effect pretty dramatically if you loosen the yoke and slide it back an inch or two, you'll get this "tunnel" of picture on the screen.

I'll try the tabs. I noticed those, but wasn't sure what they did. I did slide the yoke back and forth and saw that, but it won't go on any tighter. I got it close to looking right once, but I couldn't adjust anymore.

Thanks,
Paul

thanks for the help! I got it to look quite a bit better than it was. I will take a pic once I get it set up down at CAX. I forgot to snap one last night.
