I attempted to do a cap kit today on my r-type monitor which is an xm-2001n. The monitor was pretty dark/dim when I got the game and was told a cap kit would do the trick.

I was never able to located the final capacitor location on my board, C804 (couldn't find any C8xx actually), and I also noticed that there two caps left on my board (NOT the giant caps) that the instructions didn't ask me to change at all (i cross-referenced with moddesit's excel diagram). After an hour of looking for C804 I gave up and put it all back together.

I turned it on and the brightness is better, but now there is a vertical line running down the right side, slightly wavy, and to the right of the line the picture is darker (actually looks good), while to the left the majority of the screen is brighter, slightly washed out.

Anyone know what is causing this?

i don't know what the B+ is on those but it probably needs adjustment.
just like the sanyo always needs its B+ adjusted after a cap kit.

also did you re-flow the with coil some times i have problems on other chassis when it is loose and that takes care of it. and any other high heat stressed components. they should always get a re-flow.

if you have a store local to you that has the filter cap i would go ahead and change it along with the other two caps not in the kit. they are 20+ years old now and need too be retired any way.

i have one i need to cap as well so if you have a link to the doc you used please share. i will probably need it for something when i do mine.

hope you get it resolved.

ill be watching the thread for updates good luck.

only difference is his is a sanyo not a xm-2001n.

your monitor dose the same thing that Nintendo games need. but it is a diffrent beast. xm-2001n vs sanyo. same concept but different chassis.

I just checked my schematics and C804 is on the neck board. I have an old chassis and its the big black high voltage one. Considering the voltage, its probably pretty important. So it might make a difference when you replace it.

So I worked on it again tonight. I changed out that last cap, hooked it all back up, pressed the degausser button, and fiddled with the monitor settings a little. Everything was looking pretty good, the "shadow area" on the right side of the monitor was still there, but not super noticeable.

A few hours later before I finished up for the night I turned the game back on...and now the screen is a complete garbled mess. All the graphics turned to garbage. The game is still playing correctly, but all the graphics are now a mess.

I did mess with the +B a little when the monitor was off but thought I'd put it back to its previous spot...could this be the cause? I didn't try any fix yet, just stopped myself from jumping into traffic, shut the game off and went home.

Verify the video connector is on properly, and try adjusting your horizontal hold...

looks like your H Hold needs adjusting.

you really need to adjust your B+ to its correct setting. if i knew what it supposed to be i would tell you but i don't. hope somebody does. as that will give you a good starting point.

what happens if you turn up the fly do you get bright scan lines?

other wise it looks like its coming along nicely.

the poor xm201 suffer from electron gun burnout.. a rejuiv though should bring it back to life..
You may want to also try a new flyback which I stock now... the originals screen / focus assembly tends to separate or near seperating from many of the originals I seen.. i would do rejuiv first though, then consider a flyback.
