New here folks so don't be offended if this is "common".
I did a pretty thorough search, and found nada.
While waiting for a flyback from "Chad", who seems very likeable and knowledgeable.
I would like to look further into my xm-1801n chassis for possible problems.
First since the schematic I have is kind of a copy of a copy of a copy... etc..
It is tough for old eyes to make out... but, I am drawing the conclusion that without the flyback in place the sound may Not work.
Is this the common understanding? What supplies the "power" for the sound amp?
By looking at this chassis, I think that the previous owner has
1] removed the flyback
2] replaced the HOT
3] done at least a partial "cap kit"
The soldering is fair to good with no apparent, cold solders. Actually from appearance plenty of heat was used!!
I am just trying to cover some ground while awaiting the flyback
Thanks

In most monitors, the flyback provides the operating voltages for all sections of it.

By all means, install a full capkit on that monitor. It's 28 years old!

Thanks for the response...
Yes it is very old... in Dog years!! [as compared to say..... Me]. But, I know where it has been for the last 15 years or so... and it was not turned on nor even plugged up... so that helps a bit... maybe!
I am looking into a cap kit... but, as I said, it appears as though it got one when it got a new HOT, and lost it's Flyback! Maybe not tho... How many capacitors are involved in a "kit"?
Thanks again

24!!
I can only identify, with any certainty, that 14 have been re-soldered [possibly replaced].
For the minimal cost involved, I will likely go on and re-cap the chassis. Waiting for Chad to get flybacks in-stock anyway!
Thanks Again, for the response.

For some strange reason a lot of Op's will do half assed monitor repairs, replacing only the bad caps instead of spending the $5 for a complete cap kit.
