Xfiles...price & opinion

I played Jeff F's this summer. I'm no pin aficionado, but I had fun. I have no idea how I did it, but I go a multi-ball pretty quickly...maybe it's too easy? Nice theme, liked the layout, and I think he might have picked it up for under $1500...I'm just grasping at straws on that price. I think it's a pretty good bang for your buck pin.

Played it today for the first time -

-Love the music, love the sounds, all are very cool and effective atmosphere
-DMD stuff is nice, choose mulder or scully at the beginning etc
-Upper half of the playfield is cool, toys look cool
-some fun ramps and interesting shots

-Main playfield is very sparse
-main playfield is pretty fugly depending on your taste. the colors on it are really dark and seem to obscure the inserts and lamps, making the playfield seem even sparser
- I also got multiball pretty easy

On x-files in the Adjustment menu "multi-ball start" should
always be set to "moderate" or "hard." Default is "easy", which
is too easy. What happens is, in "easy", the filing cabinet is
down all the way, and you just need to sink one ball into
the filing cabinet to start multiball. With it set to "moderate"
the cabinet is up all the way. So you have to hit that center
filing cabinet shot several times to move the cabinet down,
and then put a ball into the cabinet, to start multi-ball.
It's a lot more rewarding than having it set to "easy."

If you look at the playfield, Xfiles is basically a copy of
Theater of Magic, with the pop bumpers on the left side.
At least that's my take on it. It's a fun game though.
I never thought I would like it, but i do, as does nearly
everyone else that plays it at our clubhouse. Given the
low cost of the machine, it's a "good bang for the buck"
type game. Lots of ramps and do-dads, it looks quite fancy.
A good game for someone that doesn't want to spend
a lot of money but wants DMD and ramps and toys.

I just wish i could find a new filing cabinet cover. It gets
pretty beat up (like the trunk on ToM), and i'de love to
get a new one.

Thanks guys...pretty good feedback for a pin that gets a horrific rating on pinside. I was a fan of the show (first couple of seasons) so I like the theme but do t understand why it gets such poor ratings (but I haven't played it)

Thanks again

Do yourself a favor, don't put too much faith in what you "hear" about a pin. If you can, try it out and decide for yourself. All the pins we have are considered pretty "bad" from what I hear but all of them are enjoyed by me... my family... and everybody else who comes over and plays them(except Casey... he just doesn't get the whole pinball thing). :)

Here's our X-files page with a little video...

And if you liked the show... I think it'll help you like the machine. After owning it for 7 or 8 months, I still play it weekly. :dunno:

I posted I was looking for one over at rgp and got a response within a hour last spring.

Give it a try... there are sooo many people that just sit on parts(thank God!). ;)

[edit]Here's a link I saved from when I was looking for one...

I played a X-Files a few times, and I am not a big fan of the File Cabinet always coming up and blocking other shots. And, I thought the flashers were too bright. I would price one anywhere from $850 to $1500, depending on condition.

Just my 2 cents
