Looking at a local xevious and was wanting some input as far as fun factor and a fair price.
Any help would be appreciated.

I bought a gorgeous (and I mean gorgeous) Xevious back when I first got out of college. Looked like it had 100 plays total on it. Bought it for $150. Was bored of it after the first week.

It's all subjective, of course, but IMHO the reason they went all out on the aesthetics of that cabinet is because the game isn't that great. I'd love to have one in an arcade, but most of the time I'd just look at it.

I'm sure you'll get a variety of opinions on this one...;)

Personally I find the music infectious and love it (I know it drives others insane) and enjoy squeezing off a few round as much I do in Galaga. Good condition would be around $250. As always, all Atari cabinets are a work of art.

I agree. I just could never get into the game. Others vertical shooters like Twin Cobra and Sky Soldiers are more fun and more challenging.

One of my favorite games on the 2600. Never played it in the arcade but it can suck you in if you're the type that likes diffficult games.

Our work picked up a very beautiful one for $50 with a monitor issue. I traded a hacked cabaret for it to save it from the 48-in-1 fate. My buddy stopped by to tell me about the working Q*Bert score he just picked up and had a heart attack when he saw it. Turns out it was a big favorite of his. I didn't have any emotional attachment other than trying to save a beautiful dedicated game. My buddy ended up trading me the Q*Bert (which I like more) for the Xevious. It has since been repaired and cleaned up, and was being played quite often when I was over there earlier this week...

Xevious has its following. My buddy could put 9999990 on it back in high school so when I got one in a bulk buy back in the 90's I gave it to him. Its been sitting in his house pretty much unused..

I think its a hard game. Great audio fun game play. Its a nice looking cabinet, but its a heavy monster. Its not an easy game to sell. Price should be $150-$400. I sold one about 6 months ago for $250.

Screen burn will be moderate to extreme on the monitor. The boardset is a pain(ditch the filter board). So if you like the game, get it. Just don't overpay and know it might not be easy to unload.

but if xevious is a game you want, you can look into buying namco classics volume 1

Hard game

I have no end of trouble getting anywhere on that game (I play in emulation), but I still go back for more. It's definitely one I'd consider having, but it's not something I'd go to the ends of the earth for.

I didn't think Xevious ever got past prototype stage on the 2600... do you mean the 7800 release?

Kyle
Yeah it was the 7800.

I would pass at that price.

I like Xevious. I was just playing it the other day on my MAME cab. Just like Zaxxon, it's a great game that doesn't get much love. Cab's are usually in great shape and most of the time sell around $175 + or -

Zero water damage, clean monitor, art isn't torn apart and stick and buttons all still work? Offer him $200 and see what happens.

A clean Xevious is one of the best looking cabinets Atari made. Gameplay-wise, you'll either love it or hate it.

Xevious is a game that has steadily grown on me. Music used to drive me nuts, but now I kind of like it. I find myself going to this game more and more on the 48/1 I put in my badly converted Xevious cabinet.

This is probably mine that we're discussing. I'm in Louisville.

It was serviced before I bought it, monitor repaired etc. I like the game but am moving soon and would rather find someone to enjoy it rather than move it. I put photos on my FS posting I just listed if anyone would like to take a look.

I'm willing to split the difference between my $300 asking and the $200 offer and take $250. I'll include the manual as well.

For $275 I'll include the free play mod board that I never installed as well.

I got a Zevious off of Craigslist -for $ bucks. Gorgeous cabinet. Didn't work but made an unbelievable 48-1. I left all the original guts in the cabinet and just added a complete JAMMA setup I stripped out of another game. All wiring and seperate power supply. Spliced in the wires to the joystick, buttons adn coin doors and it worked out perfect. I would suggest that anybody that had a chance to pickup a Zevious, don't pass it up becasue of the 48-1 factor.
Here are the pictures:

The (repetetive) sound will make you want to gouge your ears out. This was not a popular game and I see it go for $100 to $200 in good condition regularly. They should look good, nobody ever played them in the arcade. Get a 48 in 1, that way when you get bored of Xevious after 30 minutes you've got 47 others to play...
