Hello everyone, my name is Scott and I am trying to repair a functioning pre-shipment Xenophobe machine that was DOA at my address.

A little bit about me. I have zero experience working on arcade games. I can and have worked on desktop and laptop computers doing things like changing drives, motherboards, keyboards, adding memory etc. Generally speaking, I am a science type but a little lacking on common sense. I am known at the factory where I work as the guy that can do math that can make your hair curl and understand any topic on chemistry and physics. I have trouble doing the most basic of home repairs like plumbing and structural work but under the direction of the guy who built my house was able to provide valuable help. So hopefully, with your knowledge, I might be able to learn how to fix this machine.

Getting the machine to my basement, I plugged it in and flipped the top switch to turn it on. Nothing happened. No hum noise, no noise of any kind, totally dead.

I took some pictures to help everyone visualize.

My first act to try to fix this game was to examine all the fuses. There are several (8+) and probably some that I cannot see or find. The ones that I did find visually looked fine. I understand that they may not be fine with just a visual check but have no idea how to check them with my meter. Speaking of my meter, I attempted to use it to trace the power coming from the wall into the power supply. I must have done something really wrong as there was a popping noise and the breaker kicked. All of the fuses seem to fit snug in their holders with the exception of one. This fuse is on the main power supply and is different from all the others in the machine. This fuse fits down in a cartridge and fits with a screw cap. It is loose and I cannot figure out if it is making contact. This might be the problem.

Also, I have a button on one of the joysticks that is sticking. The fastener is nothing like I have ever seen. At first I thought it was a standard torque bit but upon closer inspection it looks like six pointed star with a center post. Does anyone know when I can get a tool to take these bolts out?

Thank you everyone for reading my post and if you have any advice or thoughts I would be very grateful.

Scott
