What would a dirty-assed Xenon with mylared playfield that looks to be in good shape with a nice backglass and cabinet but bad CPU be worth?

What are they asking for it? If you know what they're asking this should be the first thing you tell us.

Xenon is a desirable game. Easily $1000+ in nice restored condition. To answer your question I would be trying to get it as cheap as possible. The bad CPU is where you might be able to get a deal. A non-working pinball is not desirable to the vast majority of people who would be interested in it working.

A local collector is asking $450. I know the guy and have bought stuff from him in the past.

I just got more info from him. He says it's been sitting for "years"... but that all the boards minus the MPU are tested good. He says it needs to be shopped... and he says there are 2 burned coils.

The red drop targets are wrong, but overall the game looks like an excellent buy at $450. I'd do it in a heartbeat.

You're missing a PIA (U10) and ROM from your MPU at a minimum. That explains why it's not working.

Someone off the street might have a problem finding a working MPU for a good price but I'm betting my buddy Friz will not have that problem.

If you have the $450 I would suggest you buy it immediately.

EDIT: The burns on the driver board lead me to believe the burnt coils were probably caused by shorted driver transistors. Might be an over-fused solenoid circuit for good measure. I would be shocked if you didn't have at least minor regulator/driver board and lamp driver board problems. In any case... Buy immediately.

That would still be a bargain at $700 or $800 most likely. From what I can see, the playfield looks really nice? If the backglass is also nice, then go for it..

there were 2 at the last Grandview auction

one was rougher than the other and both did not work
i think one went for 250
and the other went for 300 i think

i think that was high price considering how much work they looked like they needed

the one in the photo doesnt look half bad. almost decent

Yeah 450 wouldnt be horrible, but I'd still try to get him down a bit more. To make her nice again you're looking at some board work - The MPU, replacing the parts Lindsey mentioned plus the caps on the solenoid driver board, most likely replacing the bridges, fuse holders and header pins on the power driver board, rebuilding most of the connectors if you want the game to be stable and reliable, all new plastic playfield posts as those have faded from blue to pink, new set of drop targets, maybe a flipper rebuild kit, maybe new displays.

I'd totally buy it as it has a nice field and backglasses. Xenon is a great game!

Xenon uses the AS2518-54 rectifier board so you probably won't have to do anything to it unless something is already blown up. That rectifier board is WAY more robust than the older version.

Other than that I agree with everything you said.

Looks like I'll be picking this pin up tomorrow.

I sold my Secret Service for $600 to buy this one... I sure hope I like this pin when it's done...

:)

xenon is a nice game is you were wanting to add an early solid state to the collection this will do nicely.

For 450 I would have already picked it up. Xenon would go for more in these parts for sure and I agree that it would sell for over 1000 working and cleaned up considering the game looks like it is in good condition already
