Just bought it on steam and its quite good. The original ate up so much of my time back in the day.

That was a game I could play for hours. Of course back then I didn't have internet and I was stuck with the same game for months at a time.

I think these days with so many more options it's harder to devote so much time to a game. Probably why I didn't clock nearly as many hours in Diablo 3 as Diablo 2.

Agreed. I can't get to most games anymore, especially all the way to the end of the ones I do get.

I need to get this. XCOM rocked back in the day. I mourned when I lost a good soldier.

Its really a dumbed down version of the original, but that actually kind of fits in with todays games.
The best way I can describe it is this. X-Com is one of my favorite games ever, I have probably about 6 or 7 copies of it at least. Still to this day I cannot beat it without cheating or using in game bugs (aka don't research plasma because it triggers mutons)
After playing the game I didn't want to punch FirAxis in the face... which is saying a lot!
There are issues with it but I really feel closer to the combat in this game, there are guys on my squad I will protect over recruits (something that didn't seem to matter much in the original)
It has a real focus compared to the original... but then again the original felt like 2 or 3 games mashed into one, Squad combat, Civ style game, and money management system.

Regardless pick this one up!
