XBox360 Arcade for $99 at WalMart??

A cheap way to upgrade the xbox hard drive is to buy a dead one for the plastic casing, buy a Western Digital 120 gig BEVS series drive (or larger but only 120 will be useable). Locate and download the 120gig BIN file (google it) and you can flash the drive to work in your XBOX360 ;)
I've done this to two 360's and it works like a charm. I refuse to pay Microsofts bullshit price for a regular 9.5mm 7200rpm hard drive that can be had any where.
Seriously google it - PLEASE no PM's asking for help.

... PM sent!

I need to stay away from this deal since the DVD drives are highly unlikely compatible candidates for a flashing to play backups on. UGH!

Think I'm gonna head to the grove city store and see if they got any.
You can change the dvd out real easy on them.

I just called two local Wal Marts, both places acted like they didn't want me to have one. The first Wal Mart girl said "We only have 3 and you can't buy them until 8am". I asked if I could buy one tonight, and she said "we can't release them until 8am"...

I was going to buy one tonight, return it at 8am, and then re-buy it. She said they are not allowed to sell their 3 units until 8am. I guess I'm not the only idiot to try that technique.

If you guys grab one, make sure you get Borderlands. It's a First person shooter with diablo style looting. Very fun and very addicting.

Also make sure you go back tuesday to get call of duty modern warfare 2. Ive played through the first 4 stages of the game and even on regular difficulty it's quite brutal. Lots of eye candy also!

What keeps people from buying this....returning the system and keeping the gift card?

I bought this long ago:

Very thankful everytime i have to flash that I have it. I no longer have to tear the 360 apart to flash. It's a simple flip of the switch which puts the DVD into mode B (So windows recognizes it.) Then run jungle flasher. Flip switch back viola!
Mine has the Hitachi Drive - ensure this is a solution that'll work for your drive.

Did you survive most recent ban waves?

lol

Is there anything wrong with getting a used $20 drive from eBay? I mean...other than the usual "getting ripped off on eBay" issues...

No, as long as it's an Xbox 360 hard drive, in the Xbox 360 enclosure, you should be able to plug it in and go. Just be aware that most of the really cheap ebay drives are the old 20gig drives, which'll only give you around 13 gigs of usable space. Still, much better than a 256m card (which you'll be able to keep and continue using, they plug into different parts of the console).

By the way guys, if you can, please buy the games that you play on these systems. Not all game developers are giant faceless corporations, many of us are actual people trying to making a living, and members of KLOV.

My local store sold out *before* they went on sale...go figure.

I was able to order one online for the same price, but now I have to wait for it. Oh well.
