Xbox Live Summer of Arcade - TMNT, Trials HD, Marvel vs Capcom 2, and more

I don't know about anyone else, but I was looking at the "Summer of Arcade" lineup on box Live today and realized that I need to come to terms with the possibility that I might be broke each week for the next several weeks.

First up, we have 'Splosion Man which is already available. I didn't know much about it, but the reviews have been pretty damn good so far, so I'll have to check out the demo for sure.

This week (07/29) is Marvel vs. Capcom 2. I hope I don't have to explain this one to all you arcade junkies.

Next week (08/05) is Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Turtles In Time Re-Shelled, which I have really been looking forward to. I hope this remake turns out as good as I hope it will. I wasn't too impressed with the port of TMNT Arcade to XBLA (mainly just because of graphical glitches and because the controller didn't really seem to work too well with it), but this one looks promising.

After that (08/12) we have Trials HD (complete with level editor!), which surprised the hell out of me, but I'm probably looking more forward to this one more than any other (which seems odd). This has to be one of the simplest concepts ever (which has been done before, but was perfected in Trials 2), and can be incredibly difficult. Again, I have high hopes for this one, so I really hope it won't disappoint. If nothing else, check out the two videos linked above for this one.

Lastly, on 08/19 comes Shadow Complex. I don't know jack about this one yet, but if the preceding games live up to expectations, I might have to look into this one as well. It's said to be inspired by Super Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, so we'll see how that plays out.

I would have preferred the original Turtles in Time. Marvel vs. Capcom 2 looks interesting but the 360 controller does not work well with 2d fighting games.

I checked out the 'Splosion Man demo. Not bad. Simple, yet fun. I assume the levels will get more difficult later on and I can see where multiplayer could be a blast (no bad pun intended).

heh matt... thanks for the xboxlive update! i havent been online in a bit (been busy playing infamous on the ps3).

def looks like some good titles coming out.

im REALLY looking forward to SHADOW COMPLEX. on gametrailerstv they had a behind the scenes on this game and WOW..... it looks awesome. 2-D gameplay at its finest! has some real cool bosses, weapon upgrades, and a sweet metroid/castlevania map. can't wait for this one :) chris

I bought splosion man. Great game although its more of a time trial get from A to B the quickest while scoring bonus's.

Ill be getting TMNT and Shadow Complex as well. 2D fighters suck the big one on xbox

Having an arcade stick for the X360 if you're into fighting games is almost mandatory. I think the X360 is the best for online competition on fighting games. There's a lot of tutorials out there on making your own or you can always buy one.

Yeah, I need to get an arcade stick at some point, but can't justify the price or work to build one. I'd consider one of the SF "FightPads" if they were a bit cheaper. I always thought the SNES pad worked well on SFII, so I'd even be happy getting one of those to work on the 360. So really, there's no cheap + easy solution here :p

Update: Buy all 5 games and get 800 ($10) points back. So that's basically like getting MvC2 for $5 instead of $15. Not too shabby since I was considering getting them all except that anyway :p

To be honest, I really just want to check out Trials HD. Which reminds me, I need to get back to losing the harder levels in Trials 2...

So all are out now except the last one. Some of you may have noticed I've been playing the hell out of Trials HD lately. Damn I love that game. I'm not all that great at it, but I've got golds on all courses in Beginner and Easy so far and have mostly gold in Medium. I think I've only managed to get past one or two tracks in Hard so far :p

There's some "Skill levels" which are really pretty sweet, too.

The TMNT remake was decent, but not as great as I'd hoped. The controls feel a little off, but that may be the analog stick more than anything else. I'm sure it'd be a lot more enjoyable with four people (...any takers?).

And yeah, 'Splosion Man does get a bit harder down the line. Worth the buy for sure.

lemme say i been playing trails non stop. Whoever invented this game needs to get shot. ITS IMPOSSIBLE. the one achievement is make like 23 levels without a fault. NEVER GONNA HAPPEN. I beat only 1 freakin extreme level. its stupid. BUT I LOVE IT

I assume you mean the Marathon achievement (The player has completed the Ultimate Endurance tournament without any faults). Is that really 23 freaking levels? That is crazy :)

The PC one was just as bad and had even more achievements. The good thing about the PC version is that you can watch replays of all the top scorers. This really helps you learn how the shit's supposed to be done.

Apparently, Trails HD does offer this in the leaderbaords. But you have to be at the leaderboards from the main menu or track list, whatever you want to call it. You can't view replays from the leaderboards at the pause menu while in the middle of a race. Still, this really helps.

As much as I played Trials 2 on PC, I never really could get past many of the Hard levels without a lot of work. Climbing those steep inclines was just too much a lot of times. But I finally picked up some tips from another forum and I'm getting the hang of it. I got past the hard levels on Trials HD and some I never could finish on Trials 2 and even one or two extreme levels on HD.

Not to mention that watching the replays really helps.

Actually, I take that back. I still have one left in Hard. I just can't get past the first set of boxes in the last Hard level (King of the Hill, I think). Damn I'm getting sick of this level :p

Trials HD is such an awesome game. Nice to have a list of people to compete against on your friends list. Hooked like a crook! :D

Mattroid some of your times are really good. I have overtaken a few but im sure they are the ones you haven't played since the first few days u had the game :D

jeez old topic, I got all my extreme ones done, all I need is the marathon achievement which i think is hands down the hardest xbox achievement. only like 11 people have it.

Ha! And I'm not very good at it, either :) I never did finish the extreme tracks. I really need to get back to those.
