XBox 360 is now online; son got cussed out.

I don't think someone saying "you fucking suck" is 'cyber-rape'. That's a little over-reactive.

I guess it's subjective. I don't really think "cyber-raping a mind" is a clinical term, so it's really what you make of it. I can go back and edit it to say "poisoning his vocabulary" if it helps you.

The point is....I want my son to be able to play Madden and Cars¨ online without some kid cussing him out.

And now I think we're able to.

I don't know. The more time I put into this, the less I think it's worth. I think it would be so much easier to sell the XBox and get him a pack of UNO Cards and some colored pencils.

Is this a joke topic and you were pulling us along the whole time?

I'm glad you're taking the initiative with your kids. So many parents don't.

I saw it first hand at the store I used to work at. People online are foul mouthed. A 10 year old doesen't need to be subjected to that.

Glad to hear that there may be a solution - let me know if you want me to send a message to the account (minus any cussing, of course) to test it out. If so, just PM me the username and I'll send a test message.

I think that throwing away the Xbox would be overkill, though. Disconnecting it from the internet I can understand.

No, you just need to adjust your sarcasm detector.

Some of you guys just need to lighten up a bit. Come over for a cold beer...it'll take the edge off.

I turn off ALL voice communication in my Xbox settings from the system menu.

I don't want to hear ANYONE talking, as there isn't even an adult on Live that actually uses voice chat with strangers that doesn't act like a fucking goof themselves. Where do you think these little 10 year olds learn their crap from?
It's great knowing the immature retards on Live are probably spouting off crap, and I can't hear a damn thing...like they're talking to a wall.

There are settings to block all messages from non friends too I believe, I haven't enabled it though.

Once again....my problem was not with voice. It was with emails. XBox Live Emails. Not voice.

It sounds like the OP has to sign up for the Gold family package. That package allows total parental control options. You can set up privacy options so that he can't play with anyone else online except with his friends thus avoiding getting the nasty messages.Staying a party only will allow you to avoid it also. Read this forum over or join to get help on parental control.

I think this is what I was trying to describe - I noticed it recently when I saw those Family Gold Package deals. Obviously I've never set it up, so I don't know details. Sounds like it may be something to look into, if nothing else.

If I come over for a cold beer, do we have to hide it if kids come around? It might teach them how to drink alcohol!! ;)

If your truly worried about him coming into contact with unsavory types on the 360 DO NOT get him the Xbox Live Vision cam and let him play Uno.....I heard it's a real "sausage fest" yes pun intended........literally.........:p

Really??? As a father you need to explain to your son that some people are going to say things that you find offensive or morally wrong. BTW, aren't there cheerleaders in Madden therefore you are just throwing sex in his face?
But to try and censor him from it or to ban him is going to make him want it more. Everyone is so quick to throw up their arms and cry afoul but won't take the time to deal with the actually problem. That's just my 2cents.

Kind of makes me think you're the guy lying down in this video.

Come on you guys, why are you blasting him for wanting to keep his kid away from the morons on XBL? I'm no prude, but clearly some of you have never played 360 online with a bunch of stoned 14 year olds spewing a non-stop stream of consciousness rant of homophobic, racist profanity. I'm an adult and I curse all day, but I don't want to hear that crap when I'm playing a game.

If you want to experience the worst language you have ever heard on Live coming from ages as young as 7-8 yrs old play a few games of GTA4 lol. I have to mute my Tv when my kids are around. GTA has by far THEE WORST mannered people online of any live game, ask any gamer whether it be on Live or PSN. The racism is out of this world!! I had a guy named Whitepride that was in every match I went in and no matter how many times I hit avoid or sent a complain we always ended up in the same room together. Never heard the "N" word spewed so much in my entire life. I think they finally banned him as I have'nt seen him in over a year.

This should not and is not a debate on parenting. I believe the OP has found a possible solution, so it should be left at that.
