GameRoom came out today for the Xbox 360. It surprisingly has a lot of depth. If you have a 360 you will inevitably check this out, but I wanted to remind everyone.

The only thing that is kinda lame is the Konami cabinets have generic cabs, side art and marquees. The Atari cabinets are the actual cabs and look great!

Anyway, check it out: http://www.xbox.com/en-US/games/g/gameroomxbla/

Right now there are only 3 varieties. Arcade, Atari 2600 and Intellivision.

Here is the current list of titles:
Adventure
Armor Battle
Asteroids Deluxe
Astrosmash
Centipede
Battlantis
Crystal Castles
Gravitar
Lunar Lander
Red Baron
Combat
Finalizer
Football
Tempest
Jungler
Millipede
Outlaw
Road Fighter
Realsports Tennis
Sea Battle
Scramble
Skiing, Mountain Madness/Super Pro
Space Armada
Space Hawk
Shao-lin's Road (Kicker)
Star Raiders
Super Cobra
Sub Hunt
Tutankham
Yar's Revenge

It is kind of ridiculous how many times over I've bought some of these classic games. Kind of a neat concept for a non-collector I suppose. I know my brother will be excited to play a few of the titles as he doesn't have any arcade machines at home.

i see the buy fill game option which is usually like 240points but what the hell is the buy anywhere option do. It says opens the game on all platforms but idk what that means?

You will own the game on the 360 and you can get it for windows live also. If MS releases a new console with that game, u will have rights to that also. That's all that means

The games are WAY too expensive (whether buying the unlimited versions or paying per-play), and it's 100% horseshit that you can't import the XBL arcade games you've already purchased or get a free download credit for them.

It's all quite pointless and a complete waste of money.

It's almost like Microsoft is trying to encourage piracy, as their prices have turned so many people off of Game Room, and opened up a lot of new discussion over emulators and ROMs.

i agree with this. I bought one game but probably wont do anything else in regards to this. The atari and colecovision games suck ass.

I have to throw in my two cents here. While I agree that this program is a bit too much per game and I defiantly feel cheated paying for a new version of a game I already own on the same console, I feel it becomes a bit elitist saying that the entire idea is worthless. Sure many here have an entire room of actual cabinets so this concept can seem, to us, a bit pedestrian. I acknowledge that there are free options in emulation out there, but emulation really caters to more of a niche crowd. I have seen it said that because there is a price on these it encourages piracy, but I don't see the pay content on ITunes encouraging piracy. This idea isn't necessarily something designed for the smeller fan base that collects arcade games or spends time on MAME but instead the greater masses that play Xbox.

Regardless how much the thing costs, it needs to have a price on it as there are people that are spending time producing the content and there are people publishing and providing the content; not only do the have to pay for them but they need to make a profit for this to work. While I hate the idea of paying for the games again, I have noticed that these aren't the same versions that Xbox live put out before (look at the vector games, they all have the vector glow added and many sounds have been fixed; but where it the Asteroids Back drop!?). While the idea isn't perfect I think it's been executed pretty well, much better that any one company's standalone compilation.

I think the best bottom line here is that it is very good to see this kind of support and attention for bringing these amazing classic titles, that often get overlooked next to their new high tech counterparts, to a new audience and keeping these games (and our collections) relevant.

Please don't get into the devil's advocate line of thinking that tries to justify the price because of "development costs" or "server resources costs" or "bandwidth costs".

Outside of the Game Room app itself, the development has been next to nil. And any server resources should be covered by Microsoft's shit-headed annual fee to play the multiplayer portion of your $60+ games (aka, Live Gold), and there can't possibly be much bandwidth costs on a 4kb game.

If they want to follow the iTunes model, that'd be great; I'm all for it. I'll be a consumer if these roms...errr...uniquely developed Xbox games cost 99 cents a pop. But $3 each? They can kiss my big fat hairy ass.

i was really excited about this until I actually got to play it. I was hoping to play vs on some crystal castles against some people online but I did not see an option, it's kinda lame. I guess it's good in theory and a good try but it lost it's appeal to me early on. Plus playing Crystal Castles with a joystick is damn near impossible.

Just to rehash this... I got a red ringed 360 a couple of days ago... fixed it, found out that I still had the 1 month free of Gold on it, took it... saw the Game Room app and was thrilled... ... ... till I downloaded it. Can't do a damned thing with it, what a joke. I'm supposed to buy all these games again? They really need to do an update for it so I can just put in my *insert game company's name* Greatest Hits disks and get at least THOSE for free.
