My pal just got a 4-player X-Men game with 4 coin mechs. He says that each coin mech is for each player, so if you want to use player #3, you have to use coin slot #3 and so on. He claims there is no free play option on this game. Other than 4 separate buttons, what are his options for free play on this game?

From what I understand, FREE PLAY is only available on machines with 2 coin mechs. Am I missing something?

There are no settings for Free Play on Konami games such as TMNT, Simpsons, X-Men, and Sunset Riders. I have it set to 36 lives per quarter on my TMNT because of this.

Not really sure why they didn't include it as you could simply just have unlimited lives once you press the action button. Then again they didn't make these things with us in mind :)

Is there a way to make a single coin mech activate any of the 4 player positions? What are his options here?

Not that I am aware of but I haven't looked too far into the issue. I have just paid attention to past threads on this topic and the general conclusion is to wire some sort of credit button to each of the 4 inputs for the coin slots.

Seems to me like the option you desire wouldn't make sense in a commercial setting so my guess is that it wouldn't have been included.

I just fired up x-men 4 player in mame and when you coin it up, it allows you to use the joystick to select which character you want.

So it sounds like you could utilize a single coin switch for any player.

BUT, it matters that he doesn't have 4 coin slots to initialize the game for each player. You can't put a coin in slot 1 and play with the 4th players controls. Or else in the arcade one kid would be using the other kid's quarter accidentally if that makes sense.

Yep, I see what you are saying.

How about..

Wiring the coin mech leads for players 1-4 into the same switch, so hitting the coin switch once coins up all 4 players, is this possible?

I think it just coins up all 4 players, and asks those players not already in and playing to hit 'Start' to choose their characters. Not sure, can someone verify this? I've got a JAMMA cab I'm converting to 4-player and want to make sure I can play TMNT and X-Men without without having to have 4 coin slots.

Each player has it's own coin switch. Their is no free play setting. If you wire all coin switches to one switch it will start all 4 players in the game even if they do not choose a character. You could replace all coin switches with small buttons to make credit button. That's what I did. No other option :p

you could drop coins in though
