I recently bought 19 in 1 and 60 in 1 boards to put in some cabinets I drug home from the last auction.

I have a couple 21" tube type PC monitors and was considering using those in order to save the arcade monitors in the machines for real games.

Any thoughts on this? Anyone else save their real monitors for real games?

Seems like a good idea. I have found that those x N 1 PCBs don't always work well to begin with, but they do provide an easy way to play some of the classics in a JAMMA cabinet.

Do your PCBs have VGA out?

Yeah they both have the VGA out on them.

I also want to note that these are for my own basement and not for selling on craigslist or anything.

yeah I save my real monitors for real games.

I've used old crt computer monitors and lcd's in the multi's I've built.

In all honesty.. my original plans from the start for the 60-1 was to use nothing but VGA PC Monitors. Well at least one for the cocktail I plan on making from scratch. Maybe one or two flat panel's for bar tops.. Depending on how many of my buddies actually want one for themselves.

I personally don't think it's right for me to take a monitor away from someone who could actually use it in there own games. Yes I probably could go purchase a few 19'' monitors cheaply if I decided to travel a few hours but then there's also the maintenance involved. At least with the pc monitors there a dime a dozen on CL so they would be easily replaced had something go wrong with em.

Unless you yourself want the full arcade feel to it, I'd opt for the pc monitor instead.

It's not like real monitors are tainted once they've been used in a xxx-in-1. Use what you've got and shuffle them around as needed.

don't use real monitors

The older monitors don't work well with 60 in 1's they like computer monitors and lcd's I spent days trying to get 4600 w/g to work and they don't like g07's either. they look the best I have seen on LCD.

The only thing I see good about the Chinese multi-boards is that you can drop them in a prewired junker cab. If you're going that far as using a PC monitor, just go all-in and run a PC with MAME.

Much better emulation and unlimited game/menu selection. Just that fact that it will run horizontal and vertical games on the same setup (as long as you can deal with the smaller display of one format) totally puts it over all the xxx-in-1's.

The 60-in-1 works great with one of my 13" G07's. Dropped right in and looks fantastic. Maybe I'm lucky?

I have a 60-1 on a 4900 and it looks nice.

Personally I'd say use the PC monitors because the boards support it, not necessarily "to keep it for other games". My attitude is that they are just as much an arcade game as any other. Think about the era of conversions, they didn't build new cabs to save the old one.

TL;DR: Use the PC monitors only because the board supports it.

I use real monitors with 60-in-1s. Generally I put them in a beat up 19" or 25" Jamma cab I pick up off Craigslist for cheap. Then I recap the monitor, throw the board in it, paint it, put in new joystick and buttons if it needs it, then add some sort of Multicade marquee.

I am leaning towards indeed using the VGA monitors and saving my arcade monitors for the time (probably not so far off) where they become much harder to come by.

It all depends on what your using it for.
If it's yours that your keeping, use a real monitor.
Otherwise, use an LCD or better, a VGA tube.

I don't worry so much about real tubes being wasted, now if it's burn free, it stays in MY machines, whatever they are.

Not true at all. I have had them on G07s, 20EZs, WG monitors. They work great. I don't have a 60 in 1 setup anymore, but if I did, I would not use an LCD or computer monitor. Never.

Exactly. While this issue was more prevalent with the older version of the 60-in-1, it no longer seems to hold true. I have had many G07's and such work just fine - if they're rebuilt properly.

Quoted for truth. Classic games look like crap on PC and LCD monitors, and if you're keeping it, why make it look like crap? Save the PC monitors for ones you sell.

I wouldn't worry too much about "saving monitors". Considering all the loose chassis lying around (I probably have close to 100) and the availabilty of TV tubes from thrift stores, you'll probably run out of space or interest before you run out of available monitors....
