So I got this Gaplus back in December, and it is in great shape, just the usual control panel wear, and I had to replace the marquee. When I went to get it from the previous owner, he had it on his garage floor with no leg levelers! He grabs them off the shelf and says "It is a lot easier to move with them off" So as a result the bottom edge the sideart is peeled. This is very minor and I was just curious as to what Phet would do. I was thinking of gluing it back down, or trimming the side art and putting a small 1/4 inch white border at the bottom.

Not sure what Phet would do but Chris would first take the cabinet apart, then i'd have the sideart scanned, then i'd strip the old shit off, restore the cabinet and have new artwork made.

Repro artwork for Gaplus would be ungodly expensive. Mine was kind of peeling at the edges like that too. I got some of that super glue that comes in the bottle with a small brush. I put some glue on the wood, and then pressed the art back down with some clamps.

I didn't about super glue, I was going to use Super 77. I still need to replace the t-molding too.

Really? The side art is in great shape except for 1/4 along the bottom.

Option #2- Cut the bottom of the cabinet out, take a 1/4 or 1/2 off the sides, front/back panel and put a new bottom in the cabinet. You'll have to re-shape the curved corners and cut new t-molding slots but with a good saw blade and some skill, you'll have 4 nice crisp edges. This is alot of work and i've done it many times but it won't cost you much either.

The cabinet is fine, it is only the art that is damaged, and only 1/4 inch along the bottom, if that.

Option #3- Cut the white vinyl reveal off right up to where it meets the black. Do any minor cabinet repairs to the bare area and seam in a new piece of white vinyl.

Option #4 will be more half ass an it only gets/looks worse from there.

I'd have a beer then lie down for a while. Probably fall asleep for an hour, wake up, grab another beer and turn on That Metal Show. If I was lucky, Monday would arrive and I'd have to wait until next weekend to think about it. Then I would cut off the bad part with a straight edge, use Evercoat to even the vinyl surface with the wood, mask the upper art and roll 2-3 light coats of either Rustoleum satin white oil-based paint, or spray on 2 light coats of Krylon Fusion vinyl paint, feathering and misting toward the paint edge as to not leave much of an ridge. Try to make your paint edge follow a natural line somewhere, unless art doesn't come near the damage. Can't see any pics.

LOL, thanks for the input! Sorry you can't see the pictures, the vinyl is just peeled along the bottom edge about 1/4 of an inch in some spots.

You could always try to stick it back down with wood glue, a clean waxed board and some clamps. Then lightly sand the rough spots and touch it up with a small brush.

It isn't like I don't have any idea what I am going to do, it is more of a Physiological question, what would Phet do if he had this cabinet.

Also here are the photos, stupid twitpic.

Well, there looks to be water damage/swelling further up the cabinet than just the peeling vinyl. You'll either have to sand that flat or do what Chris said to make it look perfect. If you don't wanna go to that extreme, just cut the bottom white border off, prep the uncovered surface and do what I said, or seal the surface with poly, cut a nice thin piece of white vinyl, about an inch wider than the boarder, butt it up to the cut mark on the black, burnish it real nice and cut off the excess with a razor.

The camera shows the bubbling more than it does IRL. It is barely noticable, only are the very bottom right side and I think it is only in the vinyl.

Why not find some aluminum right angle metal to bolt to the bottom. It should hide the damaged area and prevent any further damaga. And you could always paint it white to match. 3/4" on each side of the right angle should work. Of course, I'm no Phet, but that's what I would do if it bothered me.

I just wanted to know what Phet would do, seems to me he would either go all out, or just paint the bottom. I am probably just going to glue down the vinyl and touch up with some white paint.

My cabinet has the exact same problem around the bottom and a few places on the sides. I started getting really nutty by going to craft stores looking for ways to restick the decal edges without painting anything. I even let a person talk me into something called mod podge or something. No luck in a very small area -- it peeled back up. So, it went between two games and the problem went away. I got the machine with really bad burn in (Pole Position GAME OVER no less) and the red gun was acting up so I put in a new Kortek from arcadeshop and it looks great. Now, my Gaplus PCB is acting up so I have larger problems. Instead of the three zeros on boot, one number is a three. Cleaned and reseated and no luck.

Tighe do you want to sell your extra Gaplus PCB outright instead of a trade? :)
