Hi all,

Just joined this week. Picked up my superstars cab today (love the White joysticks!!) and am thrilled to have it. The main reason for buying it is to put a Wrestlefest board in. My Wrestlefest board will be arriving tomorrow, thanks to this forum!!! I have a few very basic questions for you guys, in hopes to make the family X-mas eve party even better.

1) Where is the best (clear, with pics) guide to swapping out boards?
2) Is it an easy swap to play two-player wrestlefest?
2a) If it's not an easy swap, can you let me know what challenges any of you have ran into?

Thanks a ton, and before someone tells me to google this, please know that I have...for a few hours, but after reading this forum, I trust you guys the most!

Thanks in advance and sorry for the blurry picture!

Eric

While I can't be of much help (I dont know much about arcade machines-- I know pins better) I just wanted to wish you luck on your project!
Those are great games! Be sure to keep us posted, and to post pics when done!

Thanks Ed!

I'm pretty sure my family knows I'm nuts now.... But this game, has eluded me since I last had the chance to buy it in 2005. I will post pics of the family going nuts on it after our party tomorrow. I just want to get the wrestlefest board installed before the party starts!

The seller of the Superstars cab threw in the manual, so I'd also love to scan it into PDF form at work tomorrow (since everyone seems to need it).

I also want to scan in the installation document that was tucked in the manual, since it is very unique and says a whole lot, but I understand very little of it. I will do this tomorrow!

both games are 100% JAMMA. no additional wiring is necessary for your project. it would only be an issue if you were trying to mate the WrestleFest to another 4 player cab. all the joystick and button wiring for players 1 and 2 come direct off the JAMMA harness.

Easy JAMMA swap. Unplug superstars, plug in fest. Pay close attention to the oreintation of the plug if it doesn't have a key installed in the plug. If it has a key then you really can't mess it up.

It's true you can just swap the WrestleFest board in to play, but there is one gotcha you're going to run into. Here's a scan of the wiring pinout of Superstars from the manual. Notice how on the left side at location pin "b" (lower case b) is where the 2 players vs computer wire is connected. Now look at a WrestleFest manual and you will see it is on the opporite side from b which is pin 24. IMHO the best thing to do would be to remove the wire at pin b on your harness and crimp that wire along with a jumper wire. You would then put that pin with both wires back in location b and put the other end of the jumper wire into pin 24. Hopefully that makes sense, but while crimping pins to wires isn't hard, it can take a bit of practice at first. If you are wanting it running quickly for a Christmas Eve party, you may just have to be limited to only versus play or single player unless you would happen to have those pins to crimp a jumper in. In a pinch I suppoe you could bare two ends of a small piece of jumper wire and temporarily wedge it into pins b and 24, but a proper and more permanent fix is to get the pins and crimp the wires to them.

Okay, this is a lot to handle for an amateur like me. I am understanding the concepts, but not a ton of the terminology. I will likely look in to doing the "Real Fix" at some point.

But for tonight and the family party, it would still work to just plug it in and play? I mean the only option we wouldn't be able to use would be co-op tag team, correct? Knowing my family and our competitive (aka drunk) nature, nobody is looking to roll co-op anyway.

Am I correct in this statement?

jbk:

What is this plug or key that you speak of?

(If this doesn't identify me as remedial, I don't know what does :))

Superstars Installation Document

This document came with the machine that I purchased yesterday. Seemed cool. Anything stand out to you guys?

Yes you can swap the WrestleFest board in and play but just won't be able to do co-op play. :) As JBK said just make sure when you switch boards, keep the wiring harness oriented the same. There should be a piece of white plastic inside that wiring harness that keeps you from plugging it in backwards. Notice how the gold pins at the top of the pcb's have a notch in them? That's so you can't plug a board in backwards if the wiring harness has a key. Check out this website to see what the key looks like.

Makes sense now... The community on this board has been fantastic this week. Thank you all. Did any of you take a look at that document I attached a few posts further up?

Okay, I REALLY NEED HELP.....

I went inside to go install the single wrestlefest board, and noticed superstars has two boards, connected by ribbon cables. Do I remove both boards and plug wrestlefest in to the jamma harness? Do I remove the ribbon from Superstars (seems dificult) and connect Wrestlefest to one of those boards?

Someone, please help... The fam is on their way and I am LOST!

This message is probabaly way late or maybe you figured it out but yes you remove both of those boards and plug the WrestleFest board into the jamma harness. Some jamma boards consist of two boards connected together like Superstars is (Double Dragon comes to mind as another example) and many others are just single boards like WrestleFest. Oddly enough the first cab I ever owned was a Superstars and I had that same question when swapping a board for the first time. :) It gets easier when you learn some of the basics and before long you'll be swapping boards like a pro.

When your game was bought new, it was a Kung Fu Master. The Op payed some company to put a new, hot game in it (Superstars) when it came out, that sheet is the checklist the company did for the operator when they swapped the game for him.

You just converted it to Wrestlefest yourself, lol. You should make a new sheet and do the checklist, lol.

Found the dip switches! You guys have been awesome! Two more questions :

1) the machine is LOUD during game play. How would I turn it down?

2) anyone have side art/bezel/front art (by front are I mean the sticker under the controls but above the coin slot).

Eric

There is a white knob on the pcb near the upper right corner. That is a volume adjustment.

Thanks Guru!

I've been raving to anyone who will listen about how awesome you guys have been. I think I've found a new hobby, and it's because of how great you all have been.

With that, another Question.... What the heck is the third set of dip switches for? The manual shows dips 1&2. Set 3 is half the size and may have 4 or so switches instead of 8. There is no mention of what this is used for anywhere.

Thanks again!
