I've got this game, and it plays well, except for the sound. Background music seems to play correctly, but when the voice kicks in to announce wrestlers, it's all scrambled. Music continues to play correctly in the background.

My assumption is that the chip that stores sound is hosed. I've got no manual to check things, so I am at a loss on what to do next. Am I on the right path? Does anyone haveany suggestions on an ready fix or for something to look for that might be causing this?

Thanks!

Do you own or know someone that owns an eprom burner? You could verify the sound rom(s) are good for starters. The problem could be more complicated that than, but it couldn't hurt to rule that out. I have the manual, but unfortunately it doesn't have any schematics in it.

My advice... get another PCB.
Not an expensive one to replace.
That's easiest if you don't know how to work on these old things yet.
... or play it with the volume turned down.
;-)

This is also a great solution. The game has a huge nostalgia factor for me, but the pcb doesn't command very high prices.

@ AaronGNP: You could still tinker with this pcb even if you buy another one, especially if you are interested in learning more about game repair. It may be an easy fix, but if not, at least you wouldn't have to break the bank to buy another.
