After cleaning many contacts and using lube on anything that moved my 3700 now almost works. I select a few plays, the programmer moves and selects the right pins, so far so good...but the record carousel never moves. It is free, and I can manually turn it and when it lines up with a selection it locks in and plays the record, even returning it properly. (before the cleaning and lubing it occasionally went into "Frisbee" mode and sent a 45 sailing) but the carousel never moves and I can't hear the motor running.
I assume it is either a bad motor or the driver for the motor circuit. Any ideas or advice? Where is the driver (or relay) located?
Also, when I removed the lower speaker panel to shake out the remains of a rat condo I noticed a small lamp in there. After further investigation (getting a flashlight) I found about 10 or more on a bar. None were lighting up so as an experiment I put in a #44 lamp from my pinball spares. It lit! Now the only way I see to get to the other 9+ bulbs is to remove the bar (3 screws + wiring). I can't see any hinges or latches to get inside the unit any other way. I there a better way or is this why nobody replaced the bulbs in the first place?

Thanks for any assistance,
Tony (Geezer49)

If its anything like the 3100, I had the same thing happen, and was busy looking for a relay... But no relay involved; problem was in the transfer switch (on the 3100 just a small bank of leaf switches that get activated by the mech itself).

Guess the memory pin switch and transfer switch are wired in series to the motor.

I finally traced it to the safety switch at the base of the arm assembly. There is a pin through the record lift arm that makes the switch when the arm is in the home position. It had apparently been knocked out of position and missed the switch completely.
I also fixed the 33/45 RPM mechanism after some DPO disabled it by cutting the wires and BENDING the bracket to a 45 degree angle! I doubt if I'll use many 33s (I bought one to test it) but it just bugged me having it mangled like that.
Adjusting the carousel detent lock allowed the now playing display to show the correct numbers, except for the "9" which was burnt out. I am waiting for UPS to bring my 1847 bulbs for the front kick panel and my 159s for the number display.
Next is a new cartridge and fixing the left audio channel....
My wife thinks I am nuts to enjoy playing with this stuff, and she just might have something there...

Thanks for the response Armis2000,

Tony

I think it is fun and good for your mental health too. I had to work late last night and by the time I got home around 8pm I was beat. I sat down with my wife figuring to watch a little TV and call it a day. Then she mentioned I got a box from UPS..the 1847 bulbs for the floor lighting in the 3700. the next thing I remember was sitting on the basement floor taking the kick panel off the 3700 replacing the 6 bulbs and cleaning the plastic windows so the light could escape. It is satisfying to take a broken pile of scrap and make it work again. (Although on occasion it does go the other way <G>)
