Hi Guys,

I posted below in an old post, thought it may be better as a new post.

I have recently purchased a Wurlitzer 1050 that has a few issues, i have not worked on a jukebox previously so i am in for a rather large learning curve.*

When i first turned on the unit i could get it to grab a record and pave it the turntable by operating the run/load/scan switch. It would then pick it back up and place it back in the rack and then pick up the same record and place if back on the turn table again. This would repeat this by operating the run/scan switch.*

This then stopped doing this, now on scan it will continue to rotate the rack and the turntable spins, on load do nothing and on run it will rotate the rack a few turns then just stop and do nothing.

I have operated the coin switches and this seems to do nothing. ( should they make a sound when a credit loads?)
The selector buttons do not stay down when pushed ( so seem to do nothing) although it does operate the switch underneath periodically.

I just need some guidence on where to start, things to check etc and any help would be appreciated, also is there a troubleshooting guide anywhere?

I have also replaced the rubbers on the turntable motor as well as the belts.Would someone have some pics looking up under their turntable on the 1050? just so i can see what needs to be their, have a feeling something is missing although i dont think it is stopping it from starting a sequence of any kind.

Again any help at all to give me some pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Corey

Lubricate all moving parts with a lightweight oil (sewing machine oil works well). I had one do the same thing, and a lube job cleared up the issue. The record players are a lot more finicky when it comes to proper lubrication.

There is a guide out there to help you - search for the brand name and model, and it should turn up.

Thanks for the reply,

I have been looking for a guide to help, but have not found it yet. If you see a guide please let me know as i would appreciate it. I will get some lightweight oil and do what you suggested. The coin switches do appear to be working, and the latch solenoid operates at times. I think my problem is there somewhere as the letter buttons do not stay in, and numbers do sometimes.

I have slowly workedma few things out,

Coin is working
latch relay operates beneath buttons.
Buttons do not stay in to select, any ideas?
i force a selection ( push pin up with fingers, operate solenoid at rear of carousel ( selects the record and plays)

It was returning the record but now is not, it just plays then arm stays on theminside of the record but will not put the record back. Any ideas?

Record is playing slow, oiled the tube on the motor with about 6 drops ( sound about right for oil amount?)

Any ideas would be so appreciated

Cheers

Hi Corey,
I just picked up a Wurlitzer 3600 and, like you, had a huge learning curve.
I have mine working now after only a few days. Waiting on a new cartridge and needle which should get me squared away.
I also joined www.phonoland.com, which has more juke guys I think. I read over there that the guys suggest using 3-in-1 motor oil on jukes, which is different from the common household 3-in-1 oil.
My selection buttons were not acting up, so I can't help much on that front.
Jukes really just run on a bunch of switches. There should be a switch that determines when the needle reaches the end of the song (see pic).
I found a manual for my juke on the web, which gave the schematics for everything. I broke down and refurbished some the assemblies (Tone Arm, Turntable and Overide Switch Assembly); however, I have learned through the years to take it very slow. I studied the assemblies and took LOTS of pictures BEFORE and DURING disassembly. I read and reread the S&P manual
Hope this helps!
Good luck!

With any old juke mech that hasn't been maintained, the lubrication is going to be gummy or hardened to asphalt. Just adding oil on top of that isn't going to fix it.

There is a shortcut, before I post it I have to add this caveat; the proper thing to do is disassemble the entire mech and degrease every part, then reassemble and properly grease it.

Now for the shortcut- use WD40.
