I picked up 2 25" monitors yesterday with k7000's in them. On a whim I decided to see if one of them worked.

I pulled that god damn 7000 out of my hard drivin (yep still in HV shutdown) and put the supposedly dead board in......holy shit....I got a pic!!!!

So being the genius I am, I thought "well I have all these new parts on my other k7000 why not pillage it for the parts.

Put all my new caps and flyback on the working board (had old caps and original flyback).

Went to fire it up and....HV shutdown!

I'm pretty sure it's not the flyback, since I've tried others in my k7000 and still didn't work.

So, I'm guessing I got a bad cap or 2 in my kit and this is the reason FOR THIS GIANT F-ING DISASTER that started months ago.

Guess I'll be ordering ANOTHER CAP KIT.

FYI, I have a serious case of OCD tonight.

I'm replacing caps 1 by 1 and firing it to see which one it is. My VOM is giving me f-d up numbers for some reason so this is the only way I have right now to figure this bitch out.

Well I'll be damned....It was the flyback. Guess I have 2 bad ones. Anyone know if BR warranties these things? I would guess not with the amount of Jaymax's in the world blowing shit up. Of course, this time, it wasn't my fault.

So after 3 months, It was the F-CKING FLYBACKS I bought!! MOTHER F-CKER!!

Well, off to recap the damn thing all over again!! Good thing I have an ample amount of beer and I'm on vacation this week :)

Don't you love when you bring your VOM in to your house or garage to work on your games.......and then you get to an outage and realize you left it at home?!

Guess I should buy one for my house! :)

I keep my true rms in the truck at ALL times. I have brought it in the house and had the exact situation happen (and of all things, an ac short to go chase.)

I'm using a fluke 73 and I think it's time for new probes

This worries me a bit - I've got to order a few K7000 flys soon, and that's a very impressive failure rate.

I checked and rechecked my work. Besides the original flyback, the only ones working are the old ones that came off the 2 monitors I grabbed the other day. The new ones: 1 dead, the other, I have to move and hold the anode wire where it attaches to the flyback. Then I get HV but no still pic.

I also take back my statement about it not being my fault. I hosed up a lot of things on that 7000 when I started this so long ago :)

Good to hear you got it corrected, and I probably would have done the same cap-by-cap thing too just to find out what it was.

I'd definitely contact Bob either way - Unless a leg fell off, wire got cut or something got melted/burned pretty bad, I can't imagine someone even being able to screw up a fly.

(I'm sure it can happen but its probably extremely rare)
