WTF USPS tracking, this doesn't make sense

I've been screwed several times with FedEx or UPS, never will use them again. USPS/Canadapost yes, someone, somewhere did something weird with the package or an error in their system. By tracking in both sites, it definitely shows going back to LA, and then back to Canada. I have it now showing in city next to mine, so I suspect I'll see it showing as out for delivery tomorrow to my mailbox. Can't wait!

Usually I see reroutes when the packaging is poor or the zip wasn't clear enough causing a route error. If it is media the delay can be inspection, which is purely random.

I semi-recently (late last year) ordered an item from Edmonton for delivery to the US. The path that it took to get to us was roughly as follows:

- Package departs Edmonton
- Package arrives in Vancouver two days later
- Package goes back to Calgary, sits there for five days
- Package goes AWOL for three days
- Package ends up in San Francisco
- Package no longer exists
- Package reappears in Seattle a week later
- Package is two states away from us four days after that
- Package arrives on our neighbour's doorstep three days from there

None of the addressing info was wrong, but somehow both Canada Post and the USPS managed to screw it up royally. I have no clue why this happens, but sending packages over the border (regardless of direction) seems to be a total crapshoot as to delivery.
