Things were going great with my SI revival right up until I shit the bed by turning it on without a starter for the black light... screen was black, sounds going haywire, so I shut it down, and noticed the spot killer didnt kick in... weird. So I remove the bulb, turned it back on same behavior but the spot killer worked on shutdown.
Thinking it through, I guess the bulb was trying to ignite but without the starter, it repeatedly stalled out kicking out nasty transients and smoked something, if not a few things.
I felt like a dumb ass. The it occurred to me this shouldn't happen. Midway must have designed this to withstand bigger dumbasses than me! And is there a difference between a failed starter and no starter?
Thinking this through some more, there is a line filter on this cabinet that is not on my other SI or Sea Wolf. I am wondering if it protected my house by blocking the transients to be dissipated by the board and monitor. If so, that thing needs to go. Home elctronics these days are pretty well protected compared to 1979 and my house would have easily
