Gotta' absolutely, positively be the KONAMI pinout, as opposed to the STERN version. And working.

First thats a super great score on the first picture is that your score?

I've had 2 PCB'S and both of them said Konami on the board.

I heard the Fuel lasts longer on the Konami or is that not true? Or is there onther things that are different about it?

I believe the pinouts are the same, only the copywright names are different....

-Mike

The pinouts are the same. The Konami boardset requires the use of an external cpu, where as the Stern boardset does not require the external cpu. The Konami version seems to play faster too.

I am pretty sure I have a scramble pcb with the external black box(CPU?) If you still need one, I can dig it out and test it. Email me if you have not found one.

AH HA!!! Alrighteee then... I am looking for the KONAMI board set with the external cpu. Thank you very much! :D Thanks, Dok and guys, for the info.

Oh, BTW... Does anyone know how I can tell which board set it is just by looking at the set? Where would that external cpu be at on the KONAMI set? Any links to PCB pics? Thanks.

The boardsets look almost identical. The Stern set does not have the cable sticking out of it for the external cpu. (Black Box) The Stern will also have a Z80 mounted on the bottom board, and Konami will have a ribbon cable in the Z80 location on the bottom board. The top board for both has two pins on the upper left that are required to power the Konami external cpu.

Sorry, never thought to take pics of the two differet sets, and no longer have a Konami version.

Super Cobra also has the exact same two board versions.

XXI21,

I'm curious - why do you want one variant Scramble board vs the other?

Aren't the connector pinouts exactly the same?

I am also asking because I:

A - Have a nice Scramble

B - was looking for a Gyruss PCB in the hopes that I could just swap in in occasionally and play it in my Scramble cab - plug-n-chug.

Isn't that possible?

Thanks,

RussM

In the Stern version by the 3rd pass through your fuel drains so fast you literally have to hit every fuel tank making it next to impossible (for everybody but Bri), in the Konami version your fuel never drains that fast and it is much easier to get high scores. For Bri, think 250,000 vs. 1,000,000+.

According to KLOV both are Konami classic pinouts, so that should work.

So it's purely a code function difference and not a hardware-compatibility issue.

Good to know.

So my plan of swapping in a Gyruss PCB now and again would be successful?

I'm no expert by any means, but I would say the fuel consumption was a programming change in the Stern version (which came out later) because the rate at which it dropped in the earlier Konami version made it too easy/not enough profits.

There are hardware differences, and the two versions can not swap boards freely.

Swapping in a Gyruss board shouldn't be a problem.

Scramble sets? So what do I do if I find a KONAMI set? Is there an adaptor, OR WHAT?!

I have a STERN set up now.

The boardsets can be swapped in the cab freely. You can not swap the boards between the sets freely.

The Konami set reuires the external cpu (black box) or it won't work. So, in short you need the Konami set and cpu in order for it to work.

The edge connector is the same and no changes need to be made.

Does this make it a little more clear?
