NEED HELP PLEASE!

I just picked up this Tekken ($50 bucks at a thrift store) and I want to restore the cabinet.

Not really sure if it was originally a Tekken. Anyone here know by the pictures?

I want to make this thing as original looking as possible.

I'd like to get a nice marquee for it and the namco and other vinyl stickers. I'd also like to know where everyone here goes to get the plastic (plexi) joystick panel covers for these.

If anyone has any additional advice on what you would do to make this thing purddyy again, please let me know.

Any help would greatly be appreciated!

Judging by the button spacing (and this could be totally wrong) it looks like a MK control panel? Just taking my best guess at it. I'm sure others will chime in and know exactly what it was.

Under that black paint you will find a MK2 or later art work.

That's not an original Tekken cabinet. That's a Midway cab.

that my good man is a dedicated Mortal Kombat 1 cabinet. Im sure you could sell that cp if it has the original metal MK panel on the wood. And you could make a new one that is spaced more correctly for the tekken series.

Well let me start by saying you just screwed up. LOL Becuase you for sure have a Mortal Kombat. Most likely a MKII. I was in your same boat two months ago when I bought a soul calibur cabinet. Soon I realized it was a Mortal Kombat and couldn't help but want to restore it to its former glory. A few reasons to make change it back to a mortal kombat. reason, 1. that is not a orginal Tekken cabinet 2. Most of sideart and cpo are for the MK are there and most likely in good condition. 3. There is alot of resources for MK. 4. Once its a MK you can still plug your Tekken in a play it as well. 5. You will feel like you belong on one of those restoration tv shows LOL like American Restoration, or Pickers

Your next steps.
Try and preserve the artwork that is on the cab already and peel it off carefully. No sense in destorying good Tekken artwork. Besides you might find and empty cabinet to put it on.
Pick up a Midway security bit to remove the control panel lexan
Go to Home depot or lowes and pick up some Lift off. Depending on how many layers of paint are on it depends on how much. I had to use 7 bottles to clean up my mk1 cabinet. but only 1 and 1/4 for my mk2 cabinet.
Lay it on its side and soak the black paint for 20 to 30 min. It will start to bubble. At first I used shop towels to remove the paint but after several hours I got brave and I used plastic putty knives to scrape off the paint. It didn't damage the artwork at all.
Once clean. Order a MK button set for 32 bucks and a marquee off here or ebay. Then watch for a good deal on an MK2 board set.
Here are some pics of what got me started. I need to make a full on post but with all the projects I now have I don't feel I have the time to do it Justice. I went from never having seen the inside of an arcade to now owning a MK1, MK2, Golden Tee 2K (lol I don't even like golf but yeah its fun with friends while drinking), a NARC, a Lethal Enforcer, and a San Francisco Rush Alktraz in two months.

Also read I have rarely had to post on here at all because all the info I wanted was pretty much here already. All I had to do was search. Good luck and enjoy your new score.

After taking time to look at the pics closer yes I agree it's a mk1. It's the only one that used that style of coin mechs. Can see in the pics if the front is curved out or flat but going on the coin door. Looks like a mk1. Also looking closer at the side art looks like a lot of damage to the front edges. I say strip it still to see how it looks. You can always paint black back over it.
