I have owned a Virtua Racing Upright for some time now. The other day I ran across another Virtua Racing Upright and figured it would be awesome to link the two together so I could race against some friends. I purchased the game without knowing that both machines need to have a Communication Board.

One of my machines is solid and ready to go, along with the TOSlink wires. Unfortunately the other machine is missing the Sega Model 1 Communication Board.

Does anyone have an extra lying around or inside a single machine or non-functional machine that they would be willing to sell?

This link gives a list of the games in which the Sega Model 1 boardset was used, along with an image of the communication board.

I've got a Virtua Fighter PCB that was converted to a Dynamite Cop. PM with an offer if interested.

VF doesn't have a comms board installed; it cannot be linked with another game. Virtua Racing & Wing War are the only Model 1 games that utilize a comm board.

and bhm probably means he had a VF2 converted to a Dynamite Cop -- a Model 2B-CRX game. Totally different animal and it doesn't have it's (incompatible) comm board installed anyway.

I have a pile of VF sets but no extra VR sets, otherwise I'd help OP out.

I ended up finding a guy in the St. Louis area who was parting out a machine he didn't want any longer. I bought the main PCB set with the shield case, and it included the communication board!!! I installed it in my second Virtua Racing upright, connected the two successfully and raced my buddy into the wall this weekend. WOOT!!!

I also found a guy in the UK who sold me three more communication boards (they are NOT FOR SALE so don't ask) and gave me directions on how to add a race commentary monitor to the loop. That should be a great addition to the game area since that would allow spectators to watch the race without standing next to the game and doing the over-the-shoulder action.

I am still looking to find a few more Virtua Racing uprights if anyone knows of anything in the Indianapolis area or surrounding four states. I hope to increase the number to four and start a Virtua Racing tournament locally.

It is SOOOOOO on!
