Hi all,

I'm a brand new to the arcade restoration community- my interest came from @tebright1, whose many projects I followed on facebook. He let me know about a free Pengo cabinet someone was offloading, and now here I am. Attached is a picture - am in need of virtually all parts. Would like to restore to the original as much as possible (versus repurposing a different game). Would you keep me in mind if you come across any? Will travel for items in Ohio area.

Before you ask, I left a new thread in the New Member section, but thanks in advance for any help!

Cheers,
Kyle

Yikes, that cabinet had been cut up...

I'm all for restoring a game and you would be a hero if you did...

But that cabinet hardly seems worth it. There is literally nothing but a shell...and barley even that! CP area is cut away and it's missing the back door! That would be a hard sell even as a donor cab.

The amount of money, time and effort it would take to bring that back 100% would far exceed the price of just finding an already working Pengo.

Heck, you would be better off finding a Pac or Ms Pac and installing the HighScoreSaves.com multi-kit that includes Pengo.

Again, I don't want to discourage restoration...but you had better really LOVE Pengo and fully understand what you are getting yourself into.

thanks

@theyeti, fair assessment. I'm just gonna be patient on it. Who knows maybe one day I'll turn it in to something halfway presentable :)

Don't mind any naysayers. (Not that the other guys are naysaying, but you know what I mean.)

Will it cost you more than buying another complete cab? Maybe, depending on how patient and persistent you are, looking for parts. But will you appreciate it more if you completely restore it? Absolutely.

Sometimes this hobby isn't about money. If you want to restore it and make it yours, do it.

Andrewb probably has the correct joystick for you.

This old game has all the art including the bezel.

Depending on how into the originality of the internals you are if you want to wire the cab jamma you can get an adapter pretty easily.

Good luck and post a thread in the restoration area when you get going on it.

I have a HUO pengo so if you need any pics of anything send me a pm.

What Andrew said!!!

the harder the restore the more you'll appreciate it!

I just competed my Pengo restore. I took me about 2 years to gather all the parts. Yes it did take some time, and yes it was worth all the hassle to find parts, but I now have a working Pengo. Thanks Andrew for the joystick, you made my Pengo play like it was new. I have repro side art and repro Pengo bezel left to install.

Yeah this resto would be for me :) and I'm prepared to wait a while since Pengo parts are harder to come by.

I'll reached out to Andrew re: joystick. Thanks all! Please keep me on your shortlist if you come across Pengo parts.

Kyle

Bumping.

Since i posted this last, I've acquired a working PCB and partial harness and have a marquee on the way. Might have a coin door possibility. So I'm in need of:
19" monitor
Power supply
Control panel and controls
Bezel
Speaker & grill
Side art (eventually)

Thanks!

Shawn,

I'd be interested — next time you're at the post office if you wanna see how much it is - if there's a cheap option maybe we can make a deal :)
